 Tom GDear Marianist:

Welcome to the first edition of the ICMF E-BULLETIN.

The International Center for Marianist Formation (ICMF), which is finishing its sixth year of existence, continues to develop and collaborate in various types of ongoing formation programs sponsored by the ICMF or other groups. We created this e-bulletin for the entire Marianist Family to offer support and information for living our Marianist missionary vocation.  Click here to read about the origins and programs of the ICMF.

This Bulletin will be distributed periodically via email in order to:

·      Inform you of ICMF activities

·      Link you to the ICMF web site and its resources

·      Inform you of the programs and other resources available for ongoing formation in Marianist life

I would appreciate any comments you might have about the Bulletin and how we might serve you better by means of this communication.

Thank you for the witness of your participation in Mary's mission.

Tom Giardino, SM

The International Center for Marianist Formation (ICMF), in collaboration with the General Administration of the Society of Mary and the Daughters of Mary Immaculate, announces that planning is underway for Horizons '10.   Horizons is a program of ongoing formation for members of the SM and FMI who have made perpetual vows and are under the age of 40.

The dates for the program are:  10 July - 10 August 2010.  The site is Bordeaux, France.  In July 2008 the Coordinating Team will meet in Rome to make initial preparations.  Soon after the meeting, Unit administrations will receive letters regarding potential participants for the program.

E-Learning Courses:
Marianist Topics

Providing content and conversation on Marianist topics via classes on-line is growing as a means of ongoing formation in the Marianist Family. The International Center for Marianist Formation is committed to providing development and coordination of e-learning classes in various languages.

Marianist Cross ThinIn cooperation with various
groups in the Marianist Family, the ICMF has collaborated in the development of courses that will stimulate your heart and mind. The benefits of e-learning or virtual learning are that you can participate in courses with people from various branches of the Marianist Family in different parts of the world, but at times that fit your individual schedule.

In true Marianist style, this learning is done "in community." That is, you interact with others in the class via discussion boards and a facilitator who guides the class. It is not a "correspondence course."

Below you will find links to the courses in the various languages currently available. These courses are in different stages of development so come back often to this site to see what is available.

Since 2003, the International Center for Marianist Formation has coordinated renewal programs for Marianist religious of various age groups in concert with the Marist Brothers of the Schools (FMS). These programs -- for French, Spanish/Portuguese and English language groups - are sponsored by the Marists. Marianists from all language groups have been participants and presenters in addition to guiding pilgrimages to Marianist Heritage sites.

Marianist resources for individual & community formation

The ICMF is pleased to offer to all members of the Marianist Family two sets of resources for use in growing in one's understanding and apostolic commitment as a missionary of Mary in the 21st century.

MSC MaryThe Stella Maris program and the Spirit of Saragossa Retreat were originally developed as resources for the preparation for perpetual vows in the SM and the FMI. However, these rich resources can be used in contexts other than the original one. While the content and the processes or methods of these programs have their own integrity, they may be creatively adapted to the needs of individuals and communities in any branch of the Marianist Family.

Stella Maris is a systematic series of Marianist topics designed to enhance growth in the understanding of and commitment to the Marianist Charism in its spirituality and apostolic dimensions. A method of readings, personal reflection, shared prayer and sharing with another is provided, however these may be adapted to individual or community use.

Click here to access all of the materials in French, Spanish and English for Stella Maris.

The Spirit of Saragossa responds to the need expressed by many for a more intense style of retreat for Marianists. It is grounded in Marianist content and method. Although it can be adapted to suit the needs of the various groups, the retreat proposes a month-long, intensive experience of silence, reflection, and daily direction.

foundersWhere We Were Born:
Scenes from our Foundation

Have you ever wondered what the houses where Fr. Chaminade lived or Mother Adele was born looked like... or where Marie Thérèse de Lamourous worked? How did they think about their vocation and their life journey?  Listen as they tell us about their life journeys and vocations.

With the program "Where We Were Born," you can get a better idea of just these matters and more, with the sights and sounds of our Heritage.

This video resource is available in French, Spanish or English in a DVD (compatible in all regions) and a CD format.  The program is approximately thirty minutes.

If you are interested in purchasing copies of the program in any of the three languages for use in communities, schools, formation programs, etc., click here to view some scenes from the program and the order form.
