Since mid-2007 we have been listing our past newsletters for web visitors to view. We find this to be a wonderful method of updating new members and to also provide a resource to our long-term patriots. Enjoy!
We begin our aerodynamic breakdown of the critical knowledge components of a life-saving unusual attitude training program. Specifically, we take an in-depth look at the importance of Angle of Attack Management in upset recovery training. Most pilots understand the need to address angle of attack in stall training but few recognize the necessity to give this aerodynamic factor consideration in almost every upset situation ... even when the aircraft is not stalled.
APS Emergency Maneuver Training is proud and honored to announce that its VP Flight Operations & Training, J. Clarke McNeace, has been announced by NAFI/IAC as the first-ever CFI-Aerobatic accredited instructor pilot in the United States. Clarke came to APS two and a half years ago leaving a 10-year career with Southwest Airlines as a 737 Captain and a 12-year veteran of the US Navy as an F/A-18 Strike Fighter Pilot.
In this article, we introduce three key preparatory reading assignments that will prepare the student for the fundamental concepts to be addressed during training. If not already read previously, please take a moment to read these articles, preferably in the following order; All-Attitude Upset Recovery, Spin - Normal Category Aircraft and, finally, Cross-Controlled Stalls.
In this newsletter we introduce the Zoom Maneuver, Aileron Roll and Falling Leaf flight envelope exercises as well as the Say & Do Technique presented by the APS Director of Flight Training, Clarke McNeace. These key concepts are the foundation from which the development of life-saving upset recovery skills begin. At your leisure, please review these short discussions and take a few moments to watch the included video clips. In our next newsletters, these concepts will be integrated into the development of effective recovery techniques.
