How Funding Can be Used: To initiate, expand and improve physical education for students in grades K-12 by providing: fitness assessments; nutrition instruction; instruction in a variety of physical activities that develop both physical fitness and students' cognitive understanding of, and appreciation for physical activity; socially participatory opportunities (exclusive of team and ROTC activities); and professional development for instructors. There is specific interest in programs that align themselves with the USDA HealthierUS School Challenge program; and, programs that include the collection and evaluation of Body Mass Index (BMI) data, and a documented, community-collaborative approach will receive addition consideration. Applicants are required to: align their project goals with their identified needs using the CDC's "School Health Index" assessment; develop, update, or enhance their physical activity and nutrition policies; link their new policy with existing local wellness policies; connect their program to Federal, State, and Local initiatives, where relevant; and to update their curricula and align all equipment purchases to the new curricula |
