ISSUE 3 February 15, 2011
You and the kids are too important to have to wait on me to build my new site. So, while the GrantsAlert.com site is being rebuilt I can still monitor, gather and deliver new funding opportunites via this email list. That's my plan and I will do this every week until the new site is launched.
If you have any questions, just email me at [email protected] or call me at 1.800.761.0907.
Thank you for all your support and encouragement,
Joe Mizereck

I Love This Opportunity(Reminder)
U.S Dept. of Education
The Institute of Education Sciences announces its interest in considering unsolicited applications for research, evaluation, statistics, and knowledge utilization projects that would make significant contributions to the mission of the Institute.
The Institute's mission is to conduct and support rigorous education statistics, research, and evaluation in order to provide reliable information about the condition of education, education practices that improve academic achievement and the effectiveness of federal and other education programs, policies and practices. Unsolicited applications are defined as those that are not eligible for funding under the Institute's current grant competitions. The Institute's current grant competitions are those for the fiscal year (FY2011), both open and closed, which are described at http://ies.ed.gov/funding/
Funding Available: The Institute expects that relatively low levels of funding will be available for these projects. Typical awards will be in the range of $25,000 to $200,000 (total cost) per year for 1 to 3 years. Larger budgets and longer award periods will be considered if a compelling case can be made for such support. The size of the award depends on the scope and significance of the project
TIMELINE: A prospectus may be submitted at any time during the fiscal year. However, to be assured consideration for funding in FY 2011 (ending September 30, 2011), the prospectus must be received by 8:00 pm Eastern time on March 2, 2011.
Why do I love this opportunity? Because it is the only DOE opportunity that offers support for projects outside the norm. This is where educators who have great ideas for addressing issues not addressed by the department can present those ideas and get them considered and possibly funded...there should be more of this...much more.
Go for it...and good luck. |

U.S Dept. of Justice
Second Chance Act Adult Mentoring Grants to Nonprofit Organizations
Purpose: The Second Chance Act grant programs are designed to help communities develop and implement comprehensive and collaborative strategies that address the challenges posed by offender reentry and recidivism reduction. "Reentry" is not a specific program, but rather a research-driven process that starts when an offender is initially incarcerated and ends when the offender has been successfully reintegrated in his or her community as a law-abiding citizen.
The reentry process includes the delivery of a variety of research- and evidence-based program services in both a pre- and post-release settings, designed to ensure that the transition from prison or jail to the community is safe and successful. Mentoring of offenders can be a significant element of a successful reentry strategy.
All applications are due by 11:59 p.m. eastern time on April 21, 2011.
Eligibility: Applicants are limited to nonprofit organizations and federally recognized Indian tribes (as determined by the Secretary of the Interior). Applicants must adhere to all of the eligibility and funding requirements of the Second Chance Act and any additional requirements that may be established through appropriations measures.
For assistance with any other requirement of this solicitation, contact the BJA Justice Information Center at 1-877-927-5657 or via email to [email protected].
Contingent upon the availability of funds and the number of offenders projected to be served, awards of up to $300,000 will be made. Pending the outcome of the FY 2011 appropriations process anticipated in March 2011, BJA may make as few as no awards or make multiple awards this fiscal year under this program.
