Alaska Airlines to begin daily non-stop flights from Reno to San Jose
RENO, NV - Alaska Airlines knows the way to San Jose and they will begin flying two flights per day between Reno-Tahoe International Airport and the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport beginning June 4.
Landing new air service to San Jose comes at a perfect time for the region. With Southwest Airlines ending service to San Jose in April, Alaska Airlines is demonstrating their commitment to the community and filling a route that will meet the needs of both leisure and business travelers alike.
"When we learned Southwest was leaving this key Bay Area market, the airport's air service team immediately contacted Alaska," Krys Bart, President/CEO of Reno-Tahoe International Airport, said. "Alaska is already a great partner for our community with their Seattle service and Reno-San Jose is an ideal fit for the Alaska network."

Flights will be timed to meet all of Alaska's Hawaii flights as well as having an early morning Reno departure to benefit business travelers. The new service offers the fastest and most convenient route from Reno to Kona, Hawaii. Travelers can literally depart Reno at 6 a.m. and land in Kona at 10 a.m. without changing airlines.
The new San Jose service also provides outstanding connections to the entire Alaska network each day, including flights to:
Boise, ID, US
Guadalajara, MX
Honolulu/Oahu, HI, US
Kona/Hawaii, HI, US
Los Angeles, CA, US
Lihue/Kauai, HI, US
Kahului/Maui, HI, US
Portland, OR, US
Palm Springs, CA, US
Seattle/Tacoma, WA, US
San Jose Cabo, MX
Flights are available for booking today. The new flights begin with a 6 a.m. departure from Reno and 7:08 a.m. arrival in San Jose. There is an 11:55 a.m. departure from San Jose with a 1 p.m. Reno arrival and a 2:15 p.m. Reno departure that lands in San Jose at 3:23 p.m. The final flight each day will be a 10:20 p.m. departure from San Jose with an 11:25 p.m. arrival in Reno.
Members of Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan can also earn double miles on the new nonstop flights between June 4 and July 31, 2012. To qualify, customers must first register at www.alaskaair.com.
The new routes will be operated for Alaska by Horizon Air using 76-seat Bombardier Q400s. Travelers can enjoy Horizon's award-winning onboard service, which includes complimentary Starbucks coffee, soft drinks, and (for passengers 21 and older) wines and microbrews.
"We encourage our community to show their appreciation to Alaska Airlines for keeping this important market by filling the seats on these great, convenient new flights," Bart said. |
The Gateway construction project is bringing magical improvements to the airport
Baggage Claim is undergoing a transformation that carries the Reno-Tahoe look and feel throughout the terminal. A new front door to the community greets arriving passengers with stone wrapped columns and a new terrazzo tile river floor emulating the Truckee River winding through it.

The newest phase of construction started March 6 and allows passengers to access the newly remodeled area of Baggage Claim that includes carousels number one and two for Alaska, Southwest, and United Airlines bag pick up; as well as all Rental Car companies. Access for all other airline baggage pick-up and groun d transportation will require passengers to exit through Door A and re-enter through Door C. Watch for signage and airport staff who are working to direct customers to the appropriate bag pick up area.
The $27 million project is running on-time and brings 275 jobs to our community.
In the spring, a new project phase will begin that will bring a new single security checkpoint to the airport along with new stores and restaurants. |

Greetings!
The sound of an aircraft taking off is not just a jet engine-it's an economic engine. And at Reno-Tahoe International Airport and Reno-Stead Airport, it's an engine that powers our local economy at a time when we need it most.
Thanks to a new economic impact study by the highly respected College of Business at the University of Nevada, we now know for certain that the regional economy takes off here at the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority.
Doctor Kambiz Raffiee and Brian Bonnefant of UNR spent many months reviewing and analyzing 2010 data from both Reno-Tahoe International and Reno-Stead Airports. Their findings on the economic impact of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority to Northern Nevada counties truly demonstrates what an important asset our airports are to the entire region.
Each year, Reno-Tahoe International and Reno-Stead airports combine to generate $2 billion in annual economic impact for the local economy. These dollars are a combination of direct, indirect and induced impacts (see chart below).
More than 22,000 jobs are sustained in Northern Nevada each year due to the economic impact of the airports.
Each time a Boeing 737 commercial jet lands at Reno-Tahoe International, it generates nearly $100,000 for the local economy. Boeing 737s generate $1.2 billion per year for the regional economy.
These statistics are more than numbers. They are a loud and clear signal to this region's business and community leaders that the road to economic recovery may actually be a runway.
If you fill the airplane seats, you fill the coffers of this region. If you fill the airplane seats, you keep Nevadans employed and put food on people's tables. If you fill the airplane seats, you pay rents, mortgages and invest in a better future for Northern Nevada.
Instead of focusing on drive markets for tourism, it's time to recognize that the airport is this region's economic driver. If this region is going to fly again economically, it's time to get on board with the airport and support air service marketing for leisure and business traffic.
If you are interested in how you can help fuel this economic engine, please feel free to contact us at bkulpin@renoairport.com.
We hope to see you soon at the airport.
Sincerely,
Krys T. Bart, A.A.E. President & CEO Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority

Reno-Tahoe International named
3rd Best Airport for Skiers
by Ski Magazine
Professional skiers ranked Reno-Tahoe International the third best airport for skiers in the nation, ahead of major hub airports like Denver and Salt Lake City, according to Ski Magazine.
The convenience of Reno-Tahoe International, its connections to major hub airports and inexpensive tickets to European destinations were cited as reasons for the high rankings.
The ranking is fitting for an airport that features a giant ski statue in the center of the terminal that was first built to support air traffic for the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics.
