Airport concessionaires win national awards

For the 4th consecutive year, Golf World Magazine, has selected the Reno-Tahoe International Airport's PGA Tour Shop as one of the 100 Best Golf Shops.  Owned and operated by The Paradies Shops, a key concessionaire at the airport, the PGA Tour Shop was recently renovated to match the Tahoe look and feel of the newly opened Ticket Lobby and offer customers an expanded selection of golf merchandise and clothing.

Fitch Ratings gives RNO an "A" bond rating

Fitch Ratings has affirmed the Reno-Tahoe International Airport's "A" rating on outstanding revenue bonds and upgraded the ratings outlook from negative to stable.

Fitch made the upgrade as a result of the airport's strong economic performance. They cited better-than-expected increases in passengers and lower annual debt service as reasons for the upgrade.

Reno-Tahoe international passengers were up 1.8 percent in 2010 over 2009. Cargo handled by the airport increased 10 percent over the same time period.

Fitch Ratings is recognized globally as a market leader in credit ratings. Through extensive research and analysis of financial and economic information, Fitch Ratings provides investors with an independent source of opinion to help judge credit quality of a business or institution.

Cell Phone Waiting Lot Moves
The airport is dialing up a new location for its popular cell phone waiting lot.

On May 28, the existing lot south of the terminal will be replaced by a new, larger cell phone lot at the corner of Terminal Way and National Guard Way. Signage will help direct drivers to and from the new lot.

The existing lot was a temporary location to help customers through the construction of the Airport Baggage Check-in Project. With the completion of the project, and passenger numbers on the rise, the existing lot cannot accommodate the number of vehicles making pick-ups during peak travel periods.

In the coming weeks, the airport will create signage, maps, a web announcement, social media blasts and press releases to help inform the public of the new lot.

Greetings!

The first quarter of the year is off to a flying start. Our airport passenger numbers are up for eight straight months.  Cargo numbers have continued to increase for 11 consecutive months. Non-stop daily service to Houston has begun. There's great snow on our mountains and bags of bowling balls are rolling through our terminal beside skis and snow boards. Like our bowlers, let's hope our airport, and our communiKrys Bart - smallty, stay on a roll.

Sincerely,

Krys T. Bart, A.A.E.

Passenger and cargo statistics begin 2011 on a high note

Reno-Tahoe International Airport is off to a strong start in 2011 with January passenger numbers up 2.2 percent over January, 2010.

The January passenger increase marks eight consecutive months of year-over-year monthly increases.  Reno-Tahoe International experienced 300,125 passengers in the first month of the year. Good ski conditions, the Safari Club International Convention and additional flights contributed to the passenger increase.

"The airport has worked hard to add flights and seats in our market," Reno-Tahoe International Airport President/CEO Krys Bart said. "It is wonderful to see our region filling those seats with travelers."

Cargo also continued its 12-month run of consecutive month-over-month increases. In January, 2011, cargo increased 3 percent of over January, 2010. The airport handled 8,959,543 pounds of cargo in January.

Reno-Tahoe offers 68 non-stop departure flights per day with 7,928 seats to 16 destinations.

Continental - Houston Inaugural Celebration cake wins award

Continental Houston Cake

On February 17th, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport welcomed Continental Airlines non-stop service from Houston Intercontinental Airport.  In addition to Olympic gold-medal skier Jonny Moseley kicking off the flight in Tahoe-style, a western-themed launch event was held at RTIA with square dancers, live music and  cakes in the shape of Nevada and Texas. The cake display won "Cake of the Week" honors from the online aviation publication anna.aero.

The new flight offers connections to over 80 possible destinations and leaves Reno at 12:45 p.m. as flight #342, arriving in Houston at 6:07 p.m. The Houston departure is at 9:40 a.m. as flight #343 and will arrive in Reno at 11:43 a.m.

Early indicators point to the new service performing exceptionally well, thanks to the support of the Reno-Tahoe region and partners.
