RNO offers new air service deep in the heart of Texas

On February 17, Continental Airlines will begin offering a daily, non-stop flight to Houston. As part of the recent merger between Continental and United Airlines, the new flight will begin under the Continental name and will serve Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport. The flight will operate a Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 155 seats.

This flight not only brings visitors to and from the great state of Texas, but also offers connections to over 80 possible destinations in a three hour window, including international service to Cancun, Frankfurt, Guadalajara, London-Heathrow, Mexico City and Monterrey.

The new flight will leave Reno at 12:45 p.m. as flight #342, arriving in Houston at 6:07 p.m. The Houston departure is at 9:40 a.m. as flight #343 and will arrive in Reno at 11:43 a.m.

"Houston service highlights the Reno-Tahoe International Airport motto of providing non-stop service to the U.S. and one-stop service to the world," said Randi Thompson, Chairperson of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. "We hope the community will strongly support this flight and help to fill those seats deep into the heart of Texas."

The addition of this flight will bring the total number of daily departures to 66 at Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

We encourage you to visit the Continental Airlines website for ticket or flight information.

From Big Aircraft to Big Horn Sheep... RNO has it all

RNO is pleased to welcome Nevada Bighorns Unlimited to Reno-Tahoe International.  Located just outside the B Security Checkpoint, passengers will now be greeted by a display of three Bighorn Sheep species...the California Bighorn, the Nelson Desert Bighorn, and the Rocky Mountain Bighorn.

Nevada Bighorns Unlimited is a local volunteer wildlife conservation and sportsmen's organization contributing to the thriving population of Nevada's Bighorn Sheep.

Frequent RNO passengers might recall that there was a black bear previously located outside the B Security Checkpoint. The bear can now be found behind security on Concourse B, near The Boutique.

Greetings!

In the airline and airport business, we sometimes refer to flights as "Lift". It's an industry term. But "lift" is exactly what the airport has been dedicated to since the economy took its frightening turn more than two years ago. We have tried to give our region a lift by adding flights and seats that translate into skiers, gamblers, tourists, business people and economic impact for our region.

Our year-end numbers show that we have surpassed last year's passenger and cargo numbers, a good sign for our airport and community. An airport is more than just a place where planes land and takeoff. It's an economic engine that adds lift to our community.

And you can help add lift as well. Buy a ticket and fly on our new flight to Houston. By taking a seat on a plane, you're taking a stand for our community.

We hope to see you soon at RNO, where you can help lift our community.Krys Bart - small

Passengers and cargo carry RNO to strong finish

Reno-Tahoe International Airport finished 2010 on a high note with annual growth for both passengers and cargo.

Passengers were 1.8 percent higher in 2010 over 2009 and cargo was 10.4 percent higher than the previous year. The airport handled 3,823,393 passengers in 2010 and nearly 113 million pounds of cargo.

"The numbers tell a story of the airport's commitment to the community," said Krys Bart, President/CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. "The airport plays a vital role in this region's economy and we are doing all we can to add flights, cargo and business to our community."

In the third quarter of 2010, Reno-Tahoe International was named the No. 1 airport in the nation for recovering commercial flights during the recession by the Air Transport Association. The airport had added 17 flights. In November, the airport added an additional cargo flight.

The added flights, seats and cargo came as a result of numerous air service meetings across the country and around the world. Adding air service supports gaming, hotels, ski resorts, businesses and restaurants. The Airport plans to continue its efforts to increase air service in 2011.

Reno-Tahoe offers 66 non-stop departure flights per day with 7,982 seats to 15 destinations.
