Krys Bart named one of Nevada's Most Influential Citizens

Krys Bart, President and CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, has been named one of Nevada's Most Influential Citizens by the Nevada Business Journal (NBJ).

Ms. Bart joins a distinguished group of prominent Nevadans whose accomplishments demonstrate their leadership in the Silver State. The NBJ described the 12 honorees as "far-thinking, clear-sighted and pro-Nevada. Each has made significant contributions to our state."

Perhaps most noteworthy, Krys Bart was cited in the article for her efforts to maintain passenger counts and flights during the economic downturn. The magazine also highlighted Reno-Tahoe International being recognized by the Air Transport Research Society as one of the top five most efficient airports in North America twice in the past three years.

Bart is in prestigious company on the list that includes State Sen. Bill Raggio, Reno Mayor Robert Cashell, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, Jim Miller the CEO of Renown and Steve Wynn, CEO of Wynn Resorts.
Airport Noise

With the weather finally turning warm and summer now upon us, many Northern Nevada residents are opening the windows of their home or office to enjoy the fresh air. And with the windows open, homeowners may have noticed the sounds of aircraft flying overhead.

Greetings!

What a great start to the summer with passenger numbers on the rise!

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) has seen a positive trend during the past few months with passenger numbers climbing in comparison to 2009. Year to date, passenger traffic is up six percent. At this time last year, RNO was down 24 percent.

Along with the increase in passengers, Reno-Tahoe International Airport celebrates the addition of nine new departures in June. And while new flights are always great news, it is important to remember that the demand must be met in order to keep these flights. The responsibility rests on the community to fill the more than 2,500 additional seats that are available starting this month.

So log on to www.renoairport.com and plan your summer travel. Click on "Find Flights" and plan your flying adventure today.

Nine new departures: airport now offers 144 flights a day

June brings nine new daily departures to Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO).

With additions to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle, the month of June will climb to 72 departures per day to 15 destinations. The new flights also mean that Los Angeles has become RNO's most served market, with 13 departures to LAX each day. The second most served market is Las Vegas with 11 daily departures.

The month of June also marks the official end of the Airport Baggage Check-in project, or ABC. This $63 million dollar project, paid with no local tax dollars, brought 1,000 jobs to the community during the past 22 months when the economy and the region desperately needed jobs.

Now that the project is complete with a state of the art Baggage Handling System in place behind a newly remodeled Ticket Lobby, the roadways in front of the terminal have re-opened. All lanes of vehicle traffic are now available for pick-up and drop-off. Remember, however, that there is still no waiting curbside and that the curb is for immediate loading and unloading only.
Art Gallery features news photographer Marilyn Newton

On June 1, the latest exhibit in the airport's Connector Collections Gallery was officially unveiled during an evening to honor Marilyn Newton and her photography, appropriately titled, "And the story goes..." The special art collection represents a collaboration of both personal and news photography spanning the nearly 50 years that Marilyn Newton has worked for the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Reno-Tahoe International Airport is proud to display Marilyn's photographs that depict the people, events and spirit of Northern Nevada. Her work has won numerous state and national awards and has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. The airport's gallery displays some of her favorite pieces including a photo of three police officers with guns drawn in hot pursuit of a suspect.

The airport's art gallery is free and open to the public 24/7, located on the second floor of the terminal between concourses B and C.

Next month, passengers can enjoy music and dance in the terminal as we celebrate Artown. And last year's debut of the Burning Man "Art from the Playa" was such a success that a second installment of artwork from the Black Rock will return at the end of July.

So stay tuned for more art and entertainment this summer season.
U.S. military welcomed through airport

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is proud to support the men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces. And as the nation's 62nd busiest commercial airport, with the close proximity to a number of bases and military training centers, RNO frequently has the opportunity to offer a warm welcome or special send-off to our troops.

During the month of June, the airport is working closely with military commanders to coordinate the arrival and departure of almost 5,000 U.S. Marines who will travel to the area from all over the world for specialized training. It is important that these men and women enjoy a safe and pleasant journey as they serve in our region, and the staff at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport is proud to help facilitate their travels. And of course, the Airport Team offers a proud thank you to the military men and women for putting their lives on the line for the country.
Reno-Tahoe International Airport receives no state or local tax dollars.
