On the Menu: New food and beverage

At Reno-Tahoe International Airport, providing a variety of tasty food and beverage options to please the palette is important. And equally important, is to provide quality food at a fair price in a timely fashion.

By February 2010, new food and beverage options will be available in both concourses in the airport terminal with "Max's Eats" and "LaBrea Bakery.

"Max's" will offer a hot breakfast buffet, gourmet sandwiches and home-style soups while "La Brea" will offer grilled Paninis made on artisan bread, gourmet burgers, pizza and delicious pastries. These restaurants will replace Quiznos and Ritazza Coffee.

And in the Food Court, located within the public area on the main floor of the terminal, "Greens" will offer healthy food choice options with soup, salad and specialty sandwiches.

So stay tuned. Coming soon to Reno-Tahoe International Airport are new food and beverages choices that will tempt travelers and visitors alike.

Travel Tips

Wherever your travels take you this year, the tips below can help make your holidays more enjoyable.

Download your boarding pass before coming to the airport. Most airlines will allow online check-in 24 hours prior to departure.

Do not wrap gifts. Wait until you arrive at your destination to wrap presents; it is possible the item may have to be unwrapped during the security screening process.

Be an educated traveler.  Know the fees for checking bags and surcharges for holiday travel. Find out from the airline the cost of additional checked bags and overweight/oversized bags, especially if you are traveling with skis or snowboards.

If your child is traveling as an unaccompanied minor, make certain that the person dropping off or picking up has photo identification and all necessary contact information for the child.  (Please contact your specific airline for their rules and procedures.)

Most of all, please pack your patience.

Greetings!

This holiday season I am wishing for health, safety and a joyous time with friends and family. That's what I enjoy best about working at an airport, that I can help to bring friends and family together. The airport is in the business of bringing people together for business, pleasure or any special occasion. What better job could there be?

And what better gift could we ask for than 9 new flights coming onboard in the new year? Read below for more information.

Wishing you and yours a peaceful holiday season, a prosperous New Year, and to all a good flight!

Krys T. Bart, A.A.E
Sincerely,

Community celebrates opening of new Ticket Lobby

Reno-Tahoe International Airport celebrated the Airport Baggage Check-in project with a community event on Tuesday, December 1, 2009.

Abc opening party

A special unveiling involved the University of Nevada band, cheerleaders and mascots; animation and video of "The Life of a Bag," greetings from the CEO, the Nevada State Governor, and Reno Mayor Bob Cashell. The evening was a toast to the success of the project and the achievement of having all airline Ticket Counters now operating inside the newly remodeled Ticket Lobby.

What's next?
Construction crews will be working to remove the Temporary Ticketing Structure and return the airport's front curb as it was before construction. By March 2010, the "tent-like" structure will be gone and the 3 lanes of traffic will re-open.

In the meantime, departing passengers may need to walk through the Temporary Structure in order to enter the new Ticket Lobby. So please watch for directional signage to guide you along the way.
New year off to a flying start

While the aviation industry has suffered a turbulent 2009, Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) has weathered the economic turmoil, and is proud to announce nine (9) new flights added between Dec. 2009 and May 2010.

Four year-round daily departures have been added to the RNO schedule, four seasonal flights will be offered for the winter ski season, and most recently, Southwest Airlines announced a third daily non-stop Portland flight beginning in May.

"To be able to announce new flights during this difficult economic time is tremendous news for the community," said Krys T. Bart, A.A.E., President and CEO of Reno-Tahoe International Airport. "But it makes it that much more important that the entire Reno-Tahoe region pull together to create the demand necessary to fill and retain the air service."

"We have been working tirelessly to build our air service during these tough economic times," Krys Bart, President/CEO said. "In the past 90 days the Airport Authority has held 32 meetings with the heads of various airlines."

It is important to note that Reno-Tahoe International Airport offers more air service than most communities of our size. In the past year, over 90 commercial airports have lost all air service. And yet during this time, Reno-Tahoe International has been able to add service. This is not only good news for the airport, but good news for the region as well.

Happy Holidays from Reno-Tahoe International Airport

"The best way in and out of the Reno-Tahoe region is getting even better."
