Airport stimulus funds help
stimulate local economy

The American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 was signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009.  One of the purposes of the multi-billion dollar Recovery Act is to help save and create jobs and to invest directly into infrastructure (roads, utilities, airports, railways).

The Recovery Act has an impact on Reno-Tahoe International and other commercial airports in the nation, because it includes $1.1 billion that can be awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration through Airport Improvement Grants (AIP).

Airport projects which improve capacity, safety, security, and aircraft noise compatibility are all eligible. Priority is given to projects that can be completed within two years and all projects must be "shovel-ready."

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority was recently awarded a total of $6.6 million for the ongoing aircraft apron reconstruction work at Reno-Tahoe International. The apron is also referred to as the tarmac and includes the concrete pad where aircraft park at the gate to drop off and pick up passengers.

Aprno reconstruction

Apron reconstruction work improves the pavements on some of the most heavily used areas at the airport.
Some of the pavements are 20+ years old and are at the end of their useful life.

Airport stimulus funds spent on the apron reconstruction project will enhance the efficiency and safety of operations at the airport. And it keeps money flowing back in to the local economy and provides local jobs.

Tips for a pleasant summer travel experience

When travelling this summer, passengers can help speed the check-in and security processes by doing the following:

The main lobby doors to the terminal are temporarily closed. Passengers checking luggage or obtaining a ticket before July 18, should remember to enter the Temporary Ticket Lobby from outside and walk to the gates through Baggage Claim. Watch for signage and directional arrows. (After July 18, the main terminal doors will once again be open.)

Use carry-on luggage when possible and download boarding passes at home or use the free web check-in kiosks inside the main airport lobby to avoid the airport construction area.

Call the airline prior to departure to ensure flight information is correct, and that the flight is on time. For specific flight information, contact the airline.

Be an educated traveler.  Know how many bags can be checked for free, what the cost for additional bags are and what their maximum weight can be before you arrive at the airport.

Only ticketed passengers will be allowed through security checkpoints. Please see airline ticket counter personnel if you have any special needs such as escorting an unaccompanied minor through to the gate.

If your child is traveling as an unaccompanied minor, make certain that the person dropping off or picking up has photo identification and all necessary contact information for the child.  (Please contact your specific airline for their rules and procedures.)

Arrive 90 minutes prior to your flight or two hours for international travel.

But be sure to remember the TSA 3-1-1 rules for carry-on bags at tsa.gov.

Allow extra travel time in case of inclement weather or busy holiday weekends.

Pack your patience.

Please continue to use the ground level to access the main Terminal Building.  Access to the main Terminal Building and aircraft gates will be through Door "A" of Baggage Claim.  Passengers needing to check luggage should proceed to the temporary Ticket Lobby BEFORE entering the main Terminal Building.

Thank you for your patience during this difficult portion of the ABC project.
