Airport is prepared for flu situation
Travelers at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport can be reassured that the airport has a disaster plan that includes detailed procedures for operating during a virus-related emergency.
The airport recently updated its pandemic plan which is based upon guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). And while the airport regularly conducts training and specialized emergency drills, airport staff members recently gathered for an emergency table top exercise to practice responses specific emergency related to the flu.
The airport benefits from having its own fire and police departments on site, ready to respond to all types of incidents. In addition, unlike many private businesses, the airport utilizes its own Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during a crisis or while practicing for an emergency. Members of the airport management team have designated roles that they fill at the EOC in order to coordinate an effective and timely response.

As part of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport's pandemic plan, numerous hand sanitizing stations have been installed throughout the terminal to promote a healthy approach to travel. |

Airport entrance shifts for ABC project
The front door to the Reno-Tahoe International Airport has changed.
As of Monday, May 4, the entrance to the main lobby of the terminal building is closed and the temporary entrance to the airport is through Baggage Claim. In addition, the pedestrian skybridge that connects the terminal with level 2 of the parking garage, is also closed.
The front door and skybridge closure is a temporary step in the $63 million Airport Baggage Check-in project that will offer a high-tech, security screening process and a remodeled Ticket Lobby. In order to maintain a consistent look and theme, a design similar to what's being created in Ticketing will be extended in to the main lobby. Natural colored tiles, rock faades and new ceiling treatments will greet customers as they enter the main doors of Reno-Tahoe International.
This step in the construction project will mean an added walk for visitors to the airport.
However, it is only a temporary inconvenience through mid-July, when a
beautiful new entrance to the Reno-Tahoe International Airport will be
unveiled. During construction, departing passengers will still enter the Temporary Ticket Lobby as they do today. But to get to the gate area, passengers will need to walk from the temporary structure , along the sidewalk outside, in through Baggage Claim and upstairs to the gates (see map below). Extensive signage, on the ground, as well as at eye level and ceiling level will help guide passengers through the temporary terminal entrance in Baggage Claim. There are even arrows on the ground to guide travelers in and out of the building to ticketing and the gates.
The most important thing for passengers to remember is that if you need to check a bag you must enter the temporary ticket lobby, the tent-like structure, before entering the terminal. With the front door closed, there is no entry to the temporary ticket lobby from inside the terminal.
And here's a travel tip: if you have no bag to check, park on the north end of the parking garage on the second or third floor. It will be a much shorter walk in and out of the temporary front door. And you can print a Boarding Pass on the way to the gate from the airport's Web Check-in computer station across from the PGA Tour Shop.
Thank you for your patience as we build a better way to fly.
