ABC Update

Travelers departing Reno-Tahoe International Airport in the coming weeks should add a little extra travel time to account for construction of the Airport Baggage Check-in Project (ABC).

The ABC Project is a 22-month construction program that includes the building of a new  baggage check-in process as well as the construction of a temporary ticket lobby. Baggage check-in in the ticket lobby will be a faster, more customer-friendly process when the project is complete.

Between now and late June, customers will see the outer shell of the temporary lobby as they enter the airport. While the shell is installed, construction is well underway inside the structure on HVAC, electrical, sprinklers, the paging system and offices.

Travelers may experience delays in the old ticket lobby as baggage screening machines are relocated for the project. We recommend adding about 15 minutes to your usual travel time beginning May 19.

All airline ticket counters will operate from their familiar positions in the old lobby until Late June. The counters will move one-by-one to the temporary lobby over a two-month process starting June 25.

For travelers with carry on baggage only, the airport offers a web check-in center in the main lobby across from the PGA Tour Shop. Web check-in allows customers with carry-on baggage to print a boarding pass for any airline operating at Reno-Tahoe International and proceed to the security checkpoint.

Broken Wing 2008               Disaster Exercise

In May, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport will be hosting their triennial disaster drill exercise. Federal Aviation Administration regulations require the airport to hold a full scale disaster drill every three years.  Broken Wing 2008 will feature a simulated crash of a Boeing 737 jet on airport property.

It will involve volunteers playing the role of crash victims, family members and the media. Victims will be moulaged to simulate injuries and emergency personnel will practice actual evacuations and triage. Public officials from throughout the region will be invited to observe the drill and the media will cover the event as well.

Disaster exercises allow Airport staff to gain valuable experience in response to emergency situations while providing first responders from the community a great opportunity to hone their skills.

Hyatt Place Hotel Begins Construction

Construction will begin in May on the new Hyatt Place Hotel. Located on the corner of Plumb Lane and Terminal Way, this new property will feature a Tahoe-themed 130 room non-gaming hotel.

Completion of the hotel is targeted for June 2009.

Airport PGA Tour Shop Named to Top 100

Golfworld Magazine, a Golf Digest publication, has recognized the PGA Tour Shop at Reno-Tahoe International Airport as one of the Top 100 Golf Shops in America.

PGA Tour ShopAn unprecedented    nine airport PGA        Tour Shops were        singled out for this    honor among the        Top 100 in the           nation. Golf shops    across America        were measured on    revenue, shop           appearance, and        success of                promotions and        recent initiatives.

Located just inside the main door of the terminal, the high level of merchandise, friendly customer service and clubhouse feel of the PGA Shop make it very popular with customers. It attracts both golfers and non-golfers while reinforcing the airport theme as the Gateway to America's Adventure Place.

The Paradies Shops, considered the number one concessions operator in the airport industry, operates the PGA Tour Shop at Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
