Greetings!
The winter solstice ushers in one of many seasonal festivals of light. From ancient times humans have sought meaning in the absence and presence of sun and moon. The rituals that accompany these moments are meant to turn us inward.
One way to honor the brightness and warmth of our spirits is to cultivate compassion for self. Unfortunately, many of us find it difficult to do. This issue of The View contains some suggestions for reframing the way you treat yourself.
At this season we send warmest wishes to you and your loved ones for rekindling your light within.

Honoring the Light of
Self-Compassion
Bob MacArthur
In my coaching practice I have been struck by the number of people who are unbelievably hard on themselves. This can be especailly true for caregivers - mothers and nurses in particular. That is why a recent interview with Kristin Neff on Self-Compassion caught my attention. I referenced it in a recent post on the Sacred Lead Blog.
Neff's research shows that many people are compassionate to others but not to themselves. How ironic, given the fact that when we meet our own needs and come from a more loving mind-set, we have more to give.
As a coach I would like to know how to help people treat themselves with the kindness they reserve for others. This seems like a timely topic during the season honoring the absence and return of light. If we do not feed our own light within, will it go out?
