Greetings!

Snowflakes fell yesterday dusting the ground with a veneer of white before melting.  They were beautiful.  They were also a reminder that several chores wait for completion outdoors.  Cutting and stacking the firewood for next winter is a big one.

Splitting wood became the metaphor for our reflections on the balance between doing and being.  Do you find yourself caught up in so much activity that you overlook the joy in each moment?  If so, this issue of The View will provide some suggestions for how to spend more of your time being in the moment.

On another note, November brings the holiday of Thanksgiving for those in the U.S.  Here at Birch Corner we offer deep gratitude for our many blessings.  We include you among them.

Yours in new beginnings,

Peggy and Bob MacArthur

Splitting Wood: To Do or To Be?

How many times have you been in a social setting where you must answer the question, "What do you do?"  How do you usually respond?  Do you define yourself primarily by what you do or by the person you are?

On Retreat

During my morning meditation last week I had an Aha.  I realized that for the past five years I have been on retreat!  It has been a time of learning to define myself more in my being and less by my doing.

 Things To Do To Be

We hope you chuckled a bit at the title.  It isn't necessary to do in order to be, but for some of us, taking action to heighten our awareness helps us focus on being present.  Here are some tools that we use and some that we know have been helpful to others.

We hope you will drop us a note with some of the things you do in order to be more fully present to yourself, your life and your Source.
