Is It True?
How to Change Your Limiting Beliefs
Bob MacArthur
Messages from childhood have shaped the story that Arlene tells herself every day. She hears a parent say, you're never going to amount to much! She hears a sibling say, you're stupid! She hears a peer say, you're ugly! She hears a teacher say, you don't try hard enough! Arlene is not a real person. "She" is a composite of many clients Peggy and I work with. She is also typical of most of us when we become stuck in the stories from long ago. Beliefs that limit us Given the emotional weight of the voices of a parent, a sibling, a peer or a teacher, it is understandable that we bought into their messages. Having heard the messages over and over again at an impressionable age, we believed them to be true! The difficulty is that Arlene still believes the messages, as do many others of us. The stories embedded earlier in life have become the lens through which she views herself in mid-life. Is it any wonder that she questions her competence, fears taking risks and is self conscious in groups? How do we move through these limiting beliefs to discover and embrace the fullness of our potential?

Awakening the Energies of Love:
Discovering Fire for the Second Time
Life asks us some basic questions. Among them: Who are we? Why are we here? What is our legacy? Our answers will differ with each stage of our life. And, our answers will deepen as we awaken to new levels of awareness. In her newly published book, Awakening the Energies of Love, Anne Hillman offers us a rich resource and companion for transforming our spiritual journey. At the core are episodes from her life that are variously wrapped in layers of theology, science, and poetry. Linking mind, body and spirit, she uses the image of fire to reveal and remind us of the power of love. The hope for any real change in our lives lies in the awakening of the human heart and mind. Such an awakening transforms the quality of all our relationships, and we come to embody a different kind of Love that has long been misunderstood. Love is not a feeling; it is a great power - an intelligence to which we are all heir and have been forever called. Awakening the Energies of Love illuminates the many paths to this kind of awakening. To engage the themes of the book and listen to Anne's introduction in her own words, we urge you to explore her website at www.annehillman.net. The experience is a meditation in and of itself. Thanks, Anne, for your many gifts to all of us and the culmination of them in this offering!
Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides, and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, humanity will have discovered fire.
