SOAP NUTS

soap nuts

I've done a lot of traveling this summer and for me the art of travellng light boils down to laundry soap.  If I can wash a few things while I'm away .. then I don't need to pack as much. But, I am picky about laundry soap - because of my skin and because of the environment. With all natural SOAP NUTS - it is easy to make sure I can wash GREEN and ALLERGY FREE, even when on vacation. I just throw a few soap nuts in the cotton sache provided and I'm good for 3 loads of laundry.  No need to buy a plastic jug of laundry soap that will hardly get used! The best part is .. soap nuts can be composted after use - so they create NO waste material at all! I love em! (and no ... they don't pay me to say that - at least not yet anyway!)

THIEVES Cleaner

Made with all natural, biodegradable ingredients and the highly anti bacterial oils of the THieves essential oil blend - this cleaner is my all time favorite.  I add some to a spray bottle of water and use it for anything and everything around my home.  It also works amazingly well at removing stains from laundry and carpeting. Best of all - it smells great.  I think I'll go do some cleaning now just so I can smell it! :-)

Greetings!
green life logoI am a super sensitive person. That used to bother me, but now I realize that being sensitive to foods and chemicals is a huge part of what turned me on to eating healthy and living more naturally. Whether it's the additives in processed foods or the synthetic perfumes in laundry soap - my body's reactions have taught me a lot about what is healthy .... and what is NOT!  Today I am truly grateful that I have a sensitive digestive tract, and sensitive skin because those "issues" led me to learn so much about healthy eating and green living.  Not only am I taking better care of my body but I am also helping the environment at the same time.

What I have learned through this process is that every little bit makes a difference.  If you just make one small change - like buying fresh vs canned- you can reduce package waste and improve your nutrient intake all at once.

GREEN & CLEAN RECIPE!

Iced Green Tea with Fresh Mint and Ginger

Green tea is a wonderful antioxidant and makes a refreshing, energizing iced tea for summer!  Brewing your own iced tea can be really fun, and it is much simpler than it may seem.

In this recipe I added some grated ginger (helps with digestion and reducing inflammation) and some fresh mint (also a digestive aid and cooling to the body).

You can add a sweetener of your choice if you so desire. Sugar makes me moody so I leave it out! :-)

For 4 cups of Tea:

1 large mason jar or other heat resistant container
2 organic green tea bags or 2 TBS loose green tea
3 sprigs of fresh mint or 1 drop of Young Living peppermint essential oil
1/8 tsp minced fresh ginger or for a no pulp option - 1 drop Young LIving ginger essential oil*

Add tea to 4 cups of boiling water (removed from heat)
Allow to steep for 5 minutes
Remove tea bags or strain loose tea
Add sweetener if desired (while still warm)
Grate ginger or add 1 drop ginger oil
Pierce mint leaves and add to tea or add 1 drop peppermint essential oil
Allow to sit at room temp for 15 minutes, covered

Place container in fridge for 1 hour.

Remove mint leaves if desired and replace with a fresh sprig of dry mint on the side of the glass before serving.

Enjoy!

*only use Young Living essential oils for ingestion and only use 1 drop!  they are very concentrated. :-)
