Can't Stomach It?
If you are someone who has learned to do without breakfast, and in fact .. find it almost impossible to stomach anything in the morning you may be thinking .. my body just cannot handle breakfast.   And you may be right.  Our bodies learn to adapt to our circumstances, whether they are ideal for its well being or not. So .. you may need to start really slow.  Try having just half an apple or banana, or a handful of walnuts.  Start getting your body used to doing the job of "digestion" before Noon and it will remember its role, and ultimately ..it will be very happy with you!

Worried About Weight Gain?
If you are worried that eating breakfast will cause you to gain weight ... GOOD NEWS. Studies have shown that people who eat breakfast (along with lunch and dinner) .. are MUCH more successful at maintaining an ideal body weight.

Greetings!

I am hearing from lots of my clients that they either don't have TIME for breakfast, or they are tired of eating the same toast, cereal or oatmeal every day.  Being a working Mom, I can totally relate to the struggle of finding time for breakfast as well as the challenge to find ways to keep breakfast interesting.
Sometimes it seems a whole lot easier to just skip breakfast in order to get out the door, but there are many reasons why we should make breakfast a sacred meal that we don't skip!
For starters, studies show that children who eat breakfast perform better in school. Wouldn't it stand to reason that the same is true for adults? Without the nutrients and energy to start our day we end up relying on artificial energy sources like caffeine and sugar. Creating a dependence on these substances leads us to the blood sugar roller coaster and predisposes us to serious illnesses like diabetes.
We all know this right? But it's challenging to actually make change, be consistent and do what we know is right for our bodies.

To offer all of us some support,I have dedicated this newsletter to offering tips and ideas on how to get breakfast BACK on your PLATE and how to keep it at least a little bit interesting!

If eating breakfast is a real struggle for you, please email me your story and your challenges at kelly@greenlifewellness.com  I will post suggestions for the top 5 challenges in next weeks newsletter.

RECIPE:   Creamy Millet with Apples and Honey    yummmmmm!

creamy millet and apple
This recipe is a great change from the usual morning fare. Perfect for those days when you can set aside some quality time for a warm, creamy breakfast! Remember, you can be getting dressed while this simmers!

Prep Time: 30 minutes
1 cup millet
1 apple, cut in thin slices or grated
21/2 cups apple juice
Pinch of sea salt
Raw, uncooked honey

1. Soak millet overnight in water to release phytic acid.  When ready to prepare: Place millet in a fine mesh strainer; rinse under cold water and drain. Combine millet, apples, juice and salt in a two-quart saucepan and bring to boil. Cover and simmer on low heat 20 to 25 minutes until all the water is absorbed. Serve in bowls with a drizzle of honey on top.
