"Tide"ings from Around the District

As June approached, we celebrated Pentecost Sunday on June 12, and, as you know, that is the Birthday of the Church...the day that God sent the Holy Spirit and renewed the disciples and empowered them as they were gathered in The Upper Room waiting and praying.  cupcakeSomething has been brewing in my spirit for the last few months:  I've had a growing concern for revival.  Not only for a personal revival in my own heart, but in our church, our community and around the world.  As I've started reading about revival, I've learned one thing; we must ask God for it.  It won't come automatically.  It comes because we have been faithful to pray for it.

Frank Martin says that "In our walk with the Lord, we must ask often for revival.  But do we?"  Martin says that it seems to him that--good things, worthy things--are distracting us from praying for revival.  And why is this?   He says that the devil doesn't want us to relinquish his hold on those who don't know Jesus as their Savior and Lord.  One author suggests that the passion to pray for the lost comes only as we ask for this ability.  So, let us ask for it and ask often.

So I ask you this question, "If we don't pray for the lost, who will?"  We need to pray for the lost to come to know Christ, and return the favor that others prayed, and led us to Christ.  That is our main duty as individuals and as a church.  So, let us pray for the lost and witness to the love of God through our lives and the life of our church.

The revival and renewal must begin with you individually as you seek God in a personal way.  Join me in praying for revival and renewal for our church.

Navagating the Elder Care Journey

Do you counsel with aging parishioners who are afraid of outliving their assets and becoming a burden to their children? Or may require home health care?  Or may need to move to an assisted living facility? May be facing a nursing home stay and don't want to leave home?  Or may have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease? Will some of these dear ones need government assistance to pay for their care?  You likely responded, "Yes, yes, yes!" I see folks with these concerns regularly!  The good news is that help is available. As the attorneys at the Wilson Elder Law Center focus their practice on "elder law" issues, they have helped hundreds of families preserve some or all of their assets as well as qualify for Medicaid and VA benefits. Please use us as a resource!
