Stalking is a serious issue and National Stalking Awareness Month is the opportunity to get informed and raise awareness. Stalking is defined as "a course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to feel fear."  In fact, 46% of stalking victims fear not knowing what will happen next.

What We Know
  • 3 in 4 stalking victims are stalked by someone they know;
  • 30% of stalking victims are stalked by a current or former intimate partner; and
  • 89% of femicide victims who had been physically assaulted had also been stalked in the 12 months before their murder.

What You Can Do:
  1. Learn more and educate those around you about the issue.
  2. Find out about pending legislation in your state and support the efforts of representatives to strengthen anti-stalking laws.
  3. Provide volunteer services or financial support to agencies such as My Sisters' Place, who work tirelessly to provide services and advocate on behalf of stalking victims.

National Stalking Awareness Month is an opportunity for each of us to reflect on, and spread the word about this issue to our friends, colleagues, and family.
