Society of PEACE
Community Service Night with Houston's 'Food Not Bombs'
Sunday, December 21
7:00 PM
Public sidewalk in front of Houston Library (Smith & McKinney Streets)
Remember to join us for our next Community service Night! We are teaming up again with Houston's 'Food Not Bombs' to help feed vegan meals to Houston's hungry. Volunteers can bring a vegan entree or side dish to share with those in need, or help serve & cleanup.
Everyone shares a meal together outdoors in the spirit of peace & nonviolence. We are pleased to announce that vegan baked goods will be generously donated by our friends at Sinfull Vegan Bakery! We are also collecting new or gently used blankets for distribution.
RSVP's aren't needed for this event -- you can just show up! |

Staci is a vegan chef and the founder of Radical Eats, Houston's premier vegan catering company. She and her team recently catered our Annual Vegan Thanksgiving Event! |
Staci is also a popular radio personality on KPFT Houston and teaches vegan cooking classes through Leisure Learning. She has several classes coming up in 2010. Staci also plans to open a Radical Eats worker-run cooperative and vegan cafe in the New Year.

| QUOTE OF THE MONTH |
|
|
"Once people spend time with farm animals in a loving way ... a pig or cow or a little chicken or a turkey, they might find they relate with them the same way they relate with dogs and cats. People don't really think of them that way because they're on the plate. Why should they be food when other animals are pets? I would never eat my doggies."

Greetings!
Welcome to the December issue of E-PEACE!
Last month, we announced the debut of our newly redesigned website and domain - www.vegansocietyofpeace.org. We're very excited about this transition! Content will continue to be added and we now have a website which can grow right along with our community organization. We hope our new site proves to be a great resource for you. Your feedback is always welcome and appreciated.
We also wish to thank everyone who supported our Annual Vegan "Gentle Thanksgiving" Event in November, and our Vegan Holiday Celebration Event earlier this month. We also wish to recognize the efforts of our hardworking, dedicated volunteers and supporters who make our yearly events and outreach possible. Society of PEACE will have even more volunteer team opportunities in 2010 and we invite you to get involved.
We've had some great Society of PEACE highlights this past year, which you'll see in an upcoming 2009 summary. On a global scale, there has been an incredible amount of news coverage on ethical vegan living, animal rights issues and environmental concerns. More and more vegan products are becoming available in stores. Major news media have aired repeated undercover video from inside factory farms and slaughterhouses. Even popular TV host Ellen DeGeneres has featured her personal vegan chef on several episodes of her show. Another great year most certainly lies ahead!
We are excited to welcome in the New Year and continue our mission to advocate for nonviolence, ethical vegan living and compassion. Each of us possesses the power to be a voice for the animals, the earth, compassion and peace. We hope to inspire and empower YOU to be that voice in your daily lives!
Live your values. Be the change. Go vegan for life!
For a compassionate world,
Your Society of PEACE E-Newsletter Team | |

Take Action for Animals, People & the Earth
- Ask Texas Tech University to permanently end experiments on Live Cats (From Kinship Circle - KinshipCircle.org) For more than 20 years, Odessa Animal Control in Odessa, Texas, has been selling cats to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) for use in cruel medical training exercises. In the exercises, hard plastic tubes are repeatedly forced down cats' throats and needles are stabbed into their chests; the animals are then killed. Sign Kinship Circle's online form asking TTU to implement non-animal testing.
- Stop the US Military from using Live Animals (From Kinship Circle - KinshipCircle.org) Every year the U.S. Military wounds and kills hundreds of thousands of animals - exhausting taxpayer dollars to amputate goats' legs, bomb pigs, and inject monkeys with toxins to mimic nerve gas strikes in chemical, biological and conventional warfare studies. Sign Kinship Circle's letter to President Obama and Members of Congress requesting that old-fashioned animal tests be replaced with modern animal-free medical testing.
