| VEGAN RECIPE OF THE MONTH |
| "Simply Yummy Vegan Kisses"
Society of PEACE member Sue Eakins, founder of the New Dawn Montana Farm Sanctuary, provides our featured vegan recipe this month for Simply Yummy Vegan Kisses. |
Sue was a resident of Houston for 30 years, before relocating with her husband, Lee, to Montana five years ago. Sue then created the New Dawn MT Farm Sanctuary to protect farm animals in rural Montana and to promote veganism. We commend Sue and Lee for their dedication to providing sanctuary to farm animals and for "walking the walk" every day! Be sure to see Sue at our next featured event on October 23rd in Houston!

| QUOTE OF THE MONTH |
|
|
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
-- Mahatma Gandhi

Greetings!
Welcome to the October issue of E-PEACE!
October is Vegetarian Awareness Month! Earlier this month, we celebrated our 4th Annual Texas "Veggin'-out" Days Campaign, held a Vegan Bake Sale and presented Rutgers Law Professor Gary L. Francione, who spoke about "Animal Rights: The Abolitionist Approach" during our World Go Vegan Days event.
This month continues to be packed with special appearances by more superstars in the vegan movement! You won't want to miss the upcoming health workshop in Houston, featuring Dr. Neal Barnard, T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn & Dick Gregory. Our organization is also hosting the "Creating a Sanctuary of Peace for Farm Animals" event featuring New Dawn MT Farm Sanctuary founder Sue Eakins.
We also honor the Birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, who is revered throughout the world for his advocacy of nonviolence, social justice and compassion for all living beings. Every year, over 56 billion sentient land animals (and billions more fish and aquatic species) are treated horribly and violently slaughtered to produce flesh, eggs & dairy. Like Gandhi, we should use every possible opportunity to be a voice for the animals, the earth, compassion and peace.
Live your values. Be the change. Go vegan for life!
For a compassionate world,

Take Action for Animals, People & the Earth
- Urge Congress to pass the Great Ape Protection Act (H.R. 1326) (From the Humane Society of the United States - HSUS.org) The Great Ape Protection Act (H.R. 1326), if passed, will phase out invasive research on chimpanzees in laboratories and retire the approximately 500 federally-owned chimpanzees to permanent sanctuary. The United States is the only country besides Gabon in Africa that still uses chimpanzees in invasive research. Make polite phone calls to your Representative at (202) 224-3121, then sign HSUS' online form asking Congress to pass the Great Ape Protection Act .
- Ask Spain to permanently ban the "Festival of Blood" (from PETA UK - PETA.org/UK) The Toro de la Vega "festival" takes place every September in Spain and entails chasing a young bull through the streets of Tordesillas and stabbing him with darts and spears until he is bleeding and crippled. His tail is cut off while he is still alive. Sign PETA's online form asking Spanish officials to permanently ban the "Festival of Blood".
