Greetings!
Welcome to the June issue of E-PEACE!
We have some great events coming up this month, including our Vegan Bake Sale during the 1st annual "Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale Week". Multiple bake sales are taking place in the Houston area and around the world in an effort to promote the many reasons to live vegan. Proceeds from our bake sale will benefit the Peaceful Prairie Farm Animal Sanctuary.
During the same week, there will be a free Society of PEACE Vegan Dinner & Cultural Event hosted by the Jain Community Center. There are also a variety of veg cooking classes in June, so be sure to visit our events calendar. You'll also want to mark your calendar for our 2nd annual "Celebrate Freedom, Live Vegan" Picnic coming up in early July!
We hope you are inspired to put compassion into action by going VEG for life. There are literally billions of reasons to do so! Thank you for making a profound difference for the animals, your health, the world's hungry and the planet!
For a compassionate world,

Take Action for Animals
- Ask Congress to protect former Pets from research! (From the American Anti-Vivisection Society - AAVS.org) Class B dealers purchase animals from facilities such as animal shelters and sell them to laboratories. Because the primary role of a shelter is to provide safe haven for lost or relinquished companion animals, it is a violation of public trust for them to be sold and shipped across the country to supply cheap animals to research institutions (pound seizure). Sign the American Anti-Vivisection's online form to let your Senators and Representative know that random source Class B dealers should be outlawed and the practice of taking animals directly from pounds to use in research (pound seizure) should be banned.
- Ask the USDA to improve nondairy Vegetarian options in school lunches! (From the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine - PCRM.org) Americans now eat more than 1 million animals per hour. At the same time, American children are in the worst physical shape of any generation in the history of our country. Schools need to serve more vegetarian foods, both for animals' sake and for human health. But unfortunately, the National School Lunch Program makes no provision for plant-based foods. Sign PCRM's online form to request that the U.S. Department of Agriculture mandate vegetarian meals and nondairy beverages in school lunches.
- Ask your Congressional Representative and Senators to extend the ban on torture to include Animals used in military trauma-training exercises! (From People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - PETA.com) Thousands of live animals are shot, stabbed, dismembered, burned, and poisoned every year in Department of Defense (DoD) training exercises designed to train medics and infantry in how to treat various human battlefield injuries. Sign PETA's online form asking President Obama to issue an executive order requiring the DoD to replace animals with non-animal methods.
- Join international animal welfare organizations in urging China to ban the live skinning of cats & dogs for meat and fur (From StopLiveSkinning.wordpress.com) Millions of cats and dogs in China are bred in inhumane conditions and sold to markets for their meat, or skinned (sometimes not completely unconscious) for their fur. The methods at which these animals are slaughtered are cruel and must be stopped immediately. Many international animal welfare organizations and humane societies have joined together in protest against the live skinning of animals for fur. Sign the online petition urging China to ban this barbaric industry.
