April 2009

Greetings!

Welcome to the April issue of E-PEACE!

April marks "Earth Day Awareness Month", when many people will be focused on the environment and the effects their choices make on the world.  This month, we will be at two Earth Day festivals in the Houston area to help educate the public as to how their food choices fit in to the big picture.

We will also be hosting our 2nd Annual "Earth Day Vegan Potluck Picnic"!  Bring your friends and family for a great event!  For Earth Day events worldwide, be sure to check the locations listing at Earth Day 2009.

We thank you for your continued support!  Together we are making a difference for the animals, the people and the planet!  Remember, you can make every day Earth Day when you go VEG for life!

For a compassionate world,

Action Alerts

Take Action for Animals

  • Urge the Olympic Committee to Help End the Canadian Seal Slaughter!  (From PETA.com) During Canada's annual war on seals, hundreds of thousands of baby seals are killed for their skin in the most horrific ways imaginable.  All eyes are on Canada as they prepare to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. Sign PETA's online form to send a polite letter to the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee asking for an immediate end to the seal slaughter.
  • Ask Montana's Governor to Say "NO" to Proposed Horse Slaughter Plants!  (From HSUS.org) The three horse slaughter plants in the United States were shut down in Illinois and Texas in 2007, and the federal government is likely to pass legislation that would halt the transport of horses for slaughter. Funding for federal inspectors has been halted, so horsemeat cannot legally be shipped across state lines. Despite all of these steps towards banning horse slaughter, the Montana legislature just passed a dangerous bill, H.B. 418, to authorize the creation of investor-owned horse slaughter plants. Sign the HSUS online form to send a polite letter to Governor Brian Schweitzer asking him to veto H.B. 418.
