APRIL 2008 *Earth Day Edition*
|

|
|
Dear Society of PEACE Members & Supporters:
This month, we celebrate Earth Day
2008
and the
many benefits of an environmentally friendly, plant-
based diet. Be sure to check out our special feature
section below and several news stories just in time
for Earth Day.
We want to thank everyone that has helped with
our
outreach efforts the past few months, either by
volunteering at events or through donations. We had
a great
volunteer turnout for our Meatout Week 2008 events.
During the week, we donated and served vegan
meals to Houston's hungry and arranged for a Veg
outreach tent in
front of City Hall in Downtown Houston. This
month,
we had a fantastic volunteer turnout when we tabled at
the annual Woodlands GREEN Earth Day Festival.
We also had an outstanding Earth Day Vegan Picnic
just
last
weekend with lots of attendees! In addition, many
dedicated volunteers are actively
working on our vegan-themed Art Car Parade entry,
which
will be seen by thousands during the parade in
Houston next month.
There are many ways to
get involved in our organization and everyone
makes a
difference! THANK YOU all for your continued
support! HAPPY EARTH DAY 2008!

SPECIAL FEATURE
Earth Day 2008
Make every day Earth Day by choosing an
environmentally friendly, plant-based diet!
In 2006, the United Nations Food and Agriculture
Organization issued a report which stated, "the
livestock sector generates more greenhouse gas
emissions as measured in CO2 equivalent - 18
percent - than transport. It is also a major source of
land and water degradation." Click
here to read the report and download free
handouts.
Learn more about the connections between
the
environment, animal agriculture and our diets.
We've
created a list of a few resources & links below.
Take the EARTH DAY Ecological Footprint Quiz!
See how much land and water resources are
needed for your present lifestyle. The results may
surprise you! It's no surprise, however, that
vegetarians
and vegans leave much less of a 'footprint' than non-
vegetarians! Even more reasons to Go Veg!!!
