"Promoting PEACE, Compassion & Ahimsa for ALL Beings"

DECEMBER 2007
|
|
|
|
Dear Society of PEACE Members & Supporters:
We hope you can all join us for our holiday event on
Saturday, December 8th, as we present "The Secret --
to Creating Peace" with Shirley Wilkes-Johnson.
This will be a unique and inspiring presentation -- one
which we
can all benefit from as we reflect on 2007 and
endeavor to make peaceful, compassionate changes
in the
world in 2008. Monday, December 10th is
recognized as International
Animal Rights Day and we encourage you to join
others worldwide in speaking
out for Animals. In support of this campaign, we have
declared it "Wear an Animal Rights Message" day.
Wear a shirt, button, hat, or scrolling belt buckle and
add a friendly smile! Distributing Veggie Starter
Kits, "Why
Vegan" booklets or any AR-related material is another
important way to "be their voice".
Society of PEACE will also
be
holding our first Volunteer Night with Houston's Food Not
Bombs
on December 23rd to help feed vegan meals to
Houston's hungry. Please join us in giving back to our
local community -- volunteers are needed!
This has been an exciting year for Society of
PEACE!
Not only have we increased our outreach efforts this
year through tabling and hosting more community
events,
but our membership base has grown by leaps and
bounds! We were also honored to have been
awarded "Most Notable
Outreach by a Group" by the North American
Vegetarian Society. We look
forward to a great 2008! Thank you for your support!

SPECIAL FEATURE
Compassionate, Eco-friendly Shopping Resources
Here are just a few Society of PEACE Member
favorites for year-round compassionate & Eco-friendly
shopping:
Additionally, several national Animal Rights
organizations
have online stores available for unique gift
ideas year-round. The PETA
Catalog, the Shop at Farm Sanctuary and the Animal Place Holiday Shop are just a
few of our member favorites. Adopting or
sponsoring a sanctuary farm animal
is another compassionate gift idea. Farm Sanctuary's
"Adopt-a-Farm Animal"
program, the Animal
Place "Foster
Parent" program , and Animal Acres' "Adopt-a-Farm
Animal" program each offer a wonderful
opportunity to support compassion for all living
beings.
Gift subscriptions
to publications (
Animals Voice,
VegNEWS Magazine and E-Environmental
Magazine to name a few!) make for
enlightening gifts and many are printed on recycled
paper using soy-based ink.
Gift certificates to your local veggie restaurant or
farmer's market/Co-op also make great gift ideas.
Many markets & Co-ops will make custom organic
fruit & produce gift baskets. And, be sure to check out
your local resale shops, too! It's a great way to recycle!
*For a list of cosmetics, personal care items and
household products that are "cruelty-free" (not tested
on animals), please visit
LeapingBunny.com. You can order or
print a free shopping guide.
