Screenwriting - Head and ReelNew Mini-Workshops Added to 2010 Authors Showcase

The 2010 Authors Showcase will feature (2) mini-workshops this year. On Sat. Oct. 9, 2010 from 2 - 3 p.m., financial advisor and author, Jesse Brown, will facilitate a mini-workshop entitled "How to Write a Business Plan for Your Book." He will be joined by Constance D. Shabazz, owner of Books Ink, who will discuss some the do's and don'ts of book marketing. This workshop idea came out of the recognition that far too many authors see their literary work as a creative passion instead of a business. The workshop will provide would-be and experienced authors with insights into the business end of the publishing industry.

On Saturday Oct. 30, 2010 from 2 - 3 p.m. award-winning writer/filmmaker/journalist, Monice Mitchell Simms, will be joined by Prof. Karla Rae Fuller from Columbia College's Film & Video Dept. for an enlightening mini-workshop entitled "Living By My Pen: Book to Screen." This is a "must attend" workshop for authors looking to get their work on the "big" and "little" screen.

Ink and PenBooks Ink to Launch "Lit-Assist"
 "The Virtual Literary Assistant"

Most authors think that the hard part of publishing is when they get their book into print. Little do they realize that the hard part has just begun. Even with a lucrative deal with one of the "Big 5" publishing  houses that's just not enough to reach your maximum book sales potential in this competitive climate. New and seasoned authors need an affordable "virtual assistant" to help them to keep the marketing of their book on a steady and consistent course. Here are some of the services provided by the "Lit-Assist" Virtual Literary Assistant:

                                   General administrative support
                                   Researching sales and marketing resources
                                   Proofreading
                                   Scheduling book-signings and author appearances
Logistics for bookings, sales, travel, etc.
                                   Tracking book sales
                                   Developing and managing all correspondences
including emails, blogs, FaceBook and other social-networking accounts
                                   Developing and maintaining mailing lists
Developing and distributing marketing materials including pluggers,
                                     flyers, and press kits
