December News

TopMessage from Sherri

During this busy time, I'd like to share the news that's making this month truly a December to remember. As I write this, Organizers with creativity and energy like yours have signed up to hold almost 2,200 drives. Agencies with your warm hearts and commitment are delivering warm coats directly to those who need them most. And our Sponsors are finding unique and fabulous new ways to build awareness of the need. Also this month, an expanding group of celebrities are joining us in doing this important work and showing others  how easy it is to make a difference.

One Woman, One Great Idea - Loads of Coats! Organizer Karen Marcellino of Lutherville, Maryland is one of a kind! She started her own coat drive in her front yard, and she makes it sound easy. After registering her drive, she placed a large donation bin in her yard, posted her One Warm Coat signs, contacted neighbors and friends - and then watched the coats appear! Karen has no website or organization staff. She simply emails friends and sends Facebook reminders about her donation box. She and her son Anthony have collected 75 coats so far! With her giving spirit and her take-action nature, Karen's drive reminds us that sometimes it takes only one person to make a difference for so many!

Blessed With Warmth This Season: Linda Casey of the Bridegport Rescue Mission in Connecticut shares the heart-warming story of providing a traditional, nutritious Thanksgiving dinner and a warm coat for almost 4,200 PEOPLE in November! She tell us that the Mission has been "blessed to receive thousands of coats" from coat drive organizers, schools and churches throughout their area.

Thanks to One Warm Coat, between December 20th and 23rd, each family who signs up for assistance can "shop" for coats for any family member who needs one!

Linda sent this picture to say "a thousand words of thanks" to everyone who makes this community outreach possible. We thank Linda, too - for sharing the story of this Amazing Agency!

Spotlight on Our Sponsors

Dec2010SponsorMontageSome Serious Name-Dropping - For Our Cause! Support from numerous celebrities is helping people everywhere learn about One Warm Coat and our mission that no one should go cold this winter. This month, through the efforts of the Warm Coats + Warm Hearts drive, Glad Products Company and Curel Skincare, more warm-hearted celebrities are lending their talents than ever before!

  • Good Morning America's viewers got to see Donny Osmond execute a perfect fade away jump shot as he and his sister Marie "sunk" warm coats into the giant collection box (Harlem Globetrotter style)!  Stayed tuned -  and check the show's website - for more celebrity excitement in January, when GMA opens an auction of celebrity coats!
  • Speaking of auctions: Glad Products Company opened its eBay Celebrity Coat Auction earlier this month! Now through December 27th, everyone can bid on Glad Flex bags filled with coats donated by Sarah Jessica Parker, Justin Timberlake, Bode Miller and others. Click here to bid - and tell your friends!
  • Curel Skincare partnered with Searle New York and Kris Kardashian Jenner to build awareness of the need for warm coats and enourage others to support One Warm Coat. Curel's sponsorship features the very warm Barrier coat created by Searle New York and selected by Kris Kardashian Jenner in honor of One Warm Coat! Everyone can buy the  Barrier coat at Searlenyc.com

The celebrity "spotlight" brings greater recognition for One Warm Coat. May it remind people in your communities to join you in your efforts to provide warm coats for all.
