The Doctor-Patient Relationship

Wu Healing Center Philosophy

In Eastern medicine, the patient takes an active role in healing, not expecting to be fixed by the doctor. The best way to achieve this is for the patient and doctor to work as a team, ideally about 70% on the part of the patient and 30% for the doctor.  Initially, the doctor identifies imbalances and through various techniques, opens the body for healing.

Balancing the external and internal goals is important; when the patient's external goals are too great, a loss of life's meaning and purpose is experienced. Imbalances can be from internal causes such as weak Qi/Chi or from external ones such as bad Qi/Chi environmentally in people, family or work.

Opening the body for healing prepares the path for the patient to make changes and heal. Dr. Ming Wu uses many techniques in treating pain and illness, all based on the teachings of the Chinese philosophy of Taoism. The focus is on the "electricity of the body," which runs like electricity to a light bulb. Certain points of the body act as light switches; when pressure and massaging touch is applied, those points send a signal to corresponding areas of the body where pain and illness take root, allowing for relief and healing.

Once these points are released and an evaluation of what is needed to achieve balance between the external (yang) and the internal (yin), it is time for the doctor to step back and for the patient to move along the path toward long-lasting balance, improved health and well-being.

"All our lives, we see things from one angle," so when someone comes in with a different take, people often act negatively and dispute that person's opinion. But if you move to the center, you can see the situation from all angles. Then you're free." (Ming Wu)

Book Recommendation from Ming

My cancer patient give me this book in English as a gift two weeks ago. She told me to read and listen to the CD many times for one month; it changed her life. On the same day, my friend Joey Wu, a Zen teacher from Guang Zhou, China, sent me a gift from China. I opened up the package and I saw "The Power of Now" in Chinese. I read this book in English and Chinese for two weeks daily; it was powerful.

This kind of book, you only can find once in 50 years.

"The Power of Now"The Power of Now

                       by Eckhart Tolle

Amazon.com Review:

"Ekhart Tolle's message is simple: living in the now is the truest path to happiness and enlightenment. And while this message may not seem stunningly original or fresh, Tolle's clear writing, supportive voice, and enthusiasm make this an excellent manual for anyone who's ever wondered what exactly "living in the now" means. Foremost, Tolle is a world-class teacher, able to explain complicated concepts in concrete language. More importantly, within a chapter of reading this book, readers are already holding the world in a different container--more conscious of how thoughts and emotions get in the way of their ability to live in genuine peace and happiness.

Tolle packs a lot of information and inspirational ideas into The Power of Now. Topics include the source of Chi, enlightened relationships, creative use of the mind, impermanence, and the cycle of life." see book

Quotes from "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle

"Accept - then act. Whatever the present moment contains,
accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not
against it. Make it your friend and ally, not your enemy.
This will miraculously transform your whole life."

"Nothing ever happened in the past; it happened in the Now.
Nothing will ever happen in the future; it will happen in the Now."

"All the things that truly matter - beauty, love, creativity, joy, inner peace
- arise from beyond the mind."
