If you swallow, not taste, Chuang Tzu, you live in the present moment. The Spirit of Chuang Tzu is the Chan (Zen) beginning during the Tang period.
 | Zheng |
Ming Wu
|
The word and concept of Zheng is one of the foundation principles in the healing practice of Qi Gong.
It has two meanings which address the spiritual and the physical; the total person, Heaven and Earth.
The first meaning is Zheng Qi and associated with cultivating the body's Zheng Qi, meaning you are centering yourself, have good energy, good intentions, and you are connected with the good energy of the Universe. Good energy=good spirit. Say Zheng and good energy comes.
The second meaning of Zheng is upright. This is in both body and mind. This is being true to yourself and on a psychological level, putting good energy into yourself. When you sit, stand, meditate or move, putting your body into line will allow connection to Earth and Heaven with no blocks.
The three points---Bai Hui (GV20), Hui Yin (CV1) and center of Yong Quan (K1) ---should be connected in a straight line. Relax the muscles to avoid stiffness of the joints. Set down your shoulders and slightly bend your knees.

Book Recommendation from Ming |
I studied Taoist Qi Gong with my father since age 7 in China and have been interested in Chuang Tzu and Lao Tzu all my life. I have read their books in Chinese over 100 times in the past.
Recently, on March 18, 2011, a Friday night, I went to bed at 10pm and woke up early Saturday morning at 1am. I noticed a book next to me, "The Way of Chuang Tzu" by Thomas Merton (given to me by my friend and student Margaret Stewart two years ago). I read it for six hours until 7am and then practiced Tai Chi for one hour to experience the way of Chuang Tzu in the Tai Chi - feeling so good considering I only slept for three hours that night. I felt the spirit of Chuang Tzu in Thomas Merton's version of these classic writings of Chuang Tzu, the same as the originals in Chinese.
Another friend John Choi also had mentioned that he loved "The Way of Chuang Tzu". I thank Margaret Stewart and John Choi for introducing this English version to me.

The Way of Chuang Tzu
by Thomas Merton (Description of book on Amazon) "Classic writings from the great Zen master in exquisite versions by Thomas Merton, in a new edition with a preface by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Working from existing translations, Thomas Merton composed a series of his own versions of the classic sayings of Chuang Tzu, the most spiritual of Chinese philosophers. Chuang Tzu, who wrote in the fourth and third centuries B.C., is the chief authentic historical spokesperson for Taoism and its founder Lao Tzu (a legendary character known largely through Chuang Tzu's writings). Indeed it was because of Chuang Tzu and the other Taoist sages that Indian Buddhism was transformed, in China, into the unique vehicle we now call by its Japanese name-Zen. The Chinese sage abounds in wit and paradox and shattering insights into the true ground of being. Thomas Merton, no stranger to Asian thought, brings a vivid, modern idiom to the timeless wisdom of Tao." Order book on Amazon top |

Tai Chi Benefits Those with Heart Failure
An article in MedPage Today, "Tai Chi Boosts Quality of Life in Heart Failure" by Nancy Walsh, reveals results from a study of heart failure patients. "Tai Chi, with its "gentle meditative exercise of flowing circular movements, balance and weight shifting, breathing techniques, visualization, and focused internal awareness," is increasingly being adopted for use in various medical contexts..." Meditate Daily for Five Minutes
This meditation came to John Choi in a dream.
Sit calmly, relax,
bring awareness to behind your eyeballs,
feeling the world is in your eyeballs,
the whole world is yours.
