new website masthead

This week marks the beginning of a new Ramah Berkshires masoret (tradition) ~ SABABA Bogrim.  Each Bogrim camper selected from a menu of six out-of-camp specialty areas where he/she would spend the next four nights and five days.  We are expecting that these programs (all within our Ramah context) help deepen each camper's exposure to an area of his/her choice and that each one returns with a new appreciation of the experience and of Bogrim.

WOW!  We met with the group after Shabbat, where we discussed last minute details about each SABABA group, and we gave the Bogrim campers a going away gift: a small notebook which will hopefully become their "yoman SABABA," or SABABA journal.  We sent them out with the mission of having fun, bonding with their groups, and learning a lot.  We look forward to creating a SABABA online album, but wanted to give you a taste of their comments from the first day of this inaugural Bogrim event!

We are so excited about SABABA and are thrilled to share with you reports from Day #1 !

BIKING EXTREME ~ from Wingdale to Vermont!

I liked seeing all the different campsites, houses, and bikers throughout the day. Some of the uphills were difficult but going downhill made up for it. Biking Sababa is definitely the best!

BIMA at Brandeis: Theater Arts

Theater arts - the first day of Bima has been very exciting. Our teacher, Rebecca, touched base on both physical and psychological focal points of improv and acting. We took trust walks and told stories while focusing our energies on being better actors. I can't wait for the rest of the week!

Machaneh Mitzvah ~ Chesed and Beyond

The first day of the chesed trip has been great! After an early wake up at 5am we finally arrived in Providence-just in time for lunch. Our first act of chesed took place at the Tamarisk Assisted Living Facility. Our chanichim and the residents spent a pleasant hour exchanging stories and information about their respective lives. As we toured the facility, the Director of Residential Life helped the chanichim to understand the needs of older adults and how an assisted living facility addresses those needs. We spent a chill evening bonding, de-briefing and relaxing in the shul. We look forward to tomorrow's adventure!

Kosher Culinary Arts ~ Delicious!

"Today we cooked very intense meals. When you're eating it you feel ' wow, we did this!' It's fun to feel like we are mature people in NYC with the freedom to learn and prepare complicated recipes."

Adirondack Wilderness Adventure

Today, after a long but enjoyable six hour bus ride and a stop at the super market, we arrived at the Adirondack Wildlife Center. We walked with wolves, learned about different types of owls, and met some unfriendly geese!  We are now headed to the Holiday Lodge where we will spend the night.

Day number one of Sababa was Sababa!

BIMA at Brandeis: Visual Arts Like You Have Never Seen

Visual arts - Over the course of our first day we carefully crafted handmade pop-up books using paint, ink, and stamps. It was also so cool to experience a taste of life on a college campus within our Jewish setting.
