Hodesh Tov Your Monthly Greeting from Camp Ramah in the Berkshires |
Tevet 5770
|
A Hodesh Tov Message From Our Director, Rabbi Paul Resnick
As we near our capacity for campers for this summer, our focus becomes staffing the 250 positions that exist in camp. With many staff from 2009 returning this summer and with a wonderful group of Gesher 2008 lined up to be Junior Counselors, our tzevet roster looks very good already!
|
How can you help make it better? I turn to you for those people who you know with particular skills - be it in ceramics or archery, biking or golf - asking you to please pass their name onto me at rpr@ramahberkshires.org.
Thank you for your support.
Enjoy the last days of Hanukkah and Hodesh Tov. |

And Now, a Word From the President
As
we enter the dark and cold days of winter and the month of Tevet, we
conclude with the brightest days of Hannukah. As our joy is increased
with each additional candle, I am thrilled to announce that a former
Chairman of our camp, Richard Skolnik, was installed as the
international president of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism
last Wednesday night. We schep nachas on this achievement and wish
Richard much strength and success in the important work of our movement. Hodesh Tov, Rob Hirsch |

B'Yachad with Israelis: A Report from Nativ Participant Rachel Engleberg
B'Yachad has been great! My peers had really insightful things to say about Zionism, Israel
and our relationship with both as Jews from the Diaspora. This past
B'Yachad was an overview about
the content of our upcoming meetings. We did an interesting
exercise exploring role modeling, as we related to how our campers
see us. We discussed how influential counselors from the past have
enhanced our own role as a counselor. We also talked about the
challenging relationship between Diaspora and Israeli Jews. I look forward bringing back personalized and engaging learning activities to supplement our Mishlachat programming and
Yahadut classes, fostering a deeper connection to Israel. | |
Ramah Camper Donates Money for Scholarship
Tamar Prince loves coming to Camp Ramah in the Berkshires
each summer. "Ramah has been such
a wonderful experience for my sister and me," she said in her D'var Torah. "Once
you step into Camp Ramah in the Berkshires you feel the ruach, the spirit, right away...I have learned so much and
have felt an even stronger connection to Israel. It is a very important party of my life and has been such an
amazing adventure, so I want to give this opportunity to someone else."
In honor of her Bat Mitzvah this past October, Tamar has
donated $1,800 from her gifts to Camp Ramah in the Berkshires Scholarship
Fund. You too can help children
have a magical Ramah summer by donating to this year's Annual Scholarship
Journal Dinner Dance. Click here to place your ad today.

A Loving Donation to CRB's B'reira Program

Recently, Paul Winton stopped by the CRB office in Englewood
to present a check to camp in memory of his wife, Carol Bass Winton, a longtime
and beloved staff member of Camp Ramah in the Berkshires. The money was raised through the North
Shore Jewish Center Men's Club annual Winton Walk, held in memory of
Carol. The gift was allocated to
the B'reira program.
May her memory be for a continued blessing!

Ramah Berkshires Alum Named Rhodes Scholar
Zohar Atkins, a senior at Brown University and CRB Alum
(Gesher '04) was recently selected as one of 32 Rhodes Scholars of 2010.
Zohar is studying toward an undergraduate
degree at Brown with a major in classics and Jewish studies; he is
simultaneously earning a master's degree in history. With plans to join the rabbinate, he credits his summers
at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires as one of the influences that helped to shape
his Jewish identity.
