Greetings! |
I've just gotten the hang of writing 2010 on my cheques, and here we are all set to open the door on 2011. Where did the year just go...if you're like me the years seem to fly by at breakneck speed. Somebody told me this is because as we get older there is more to remember and reflect on.
As we reflect on 2010 we have much to be thankful for and much to look forward to in the year ahead.
Looking forward, a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, Emerging from the Shadow ,paints a very optimistic outlook for Canada in the years ahead. Brian Lee Crowley who spoke at our 2010 conference is featured in the article.
In 2011 the CERC conference moves to Calgary September 25-27. If you have an idea for a presentation or speaker, submissions must be received in the CERC office not later than 5:00 pm EST December 17, 2010.

The changing face of cities
| |
According to this blog from author Richard Florida, "Cities bring together diverse groups of people and companies in ways that increase productivity and create the networks, clusters, and chance interactions that lead to the discovery of new innovations and the creations of new entrepreneurial businesses. Up until now, the economic performance of cities has been gauged in terms of the education or human capital level of residents or the kinds of work they do." But what is the impact of social intellegence on today's cities?

The hiring process is broken
|
This article in Fast Company magazine makes the argument that the current hiring processes used by many organizations is broken. Instead of looking for reasons to hire a candidate, obstacles are placed in the way that identify reasons not to hire the candidate. The author makes the case that diversity and intellectual thought are much better ways to assess future employees.
