Although it seems so far off, planning of the CERC conference in Calgary is underway. The conference planning committee is chaired by Rita Stel of Brookfield Global Relocation Services.
Speaker Submissions for the CERC 2011 Conference, taking place in Calgary September 25-27, 2011, are now being accepted. To be considered, conference submissions must be received by CERC not later than 5:00 pm ET December 9, 2010. More details
CERC recently posted its Talent Mobility video on You Tube. I invite you to help to spread the word about CERC by sharing this video link with your friends and colleagues.
Over the past couple of weeks we've added a couple of new tools for cross border mobility on the CERC website for members, including a Canada US Immigration Guide.

Canada EU Trade Negotiations |
Representatives from Canada and the EU are meeting in Ottawa this week in one more round of negotiations to land on a Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA). This article from the Conference Board of Canada makes a compelling case about the importance of this agreement to the Canadian Economy. Trade barriers to services trade include facilitating temporary work visas and recognizing professional credentials.

A multicultural workforce gives Canadian companies a global edge

Paul Beamish hired Gigi Wong because of her answer to a simple question: how would she react if a Chinese businessman belched after his meal? It was a difference in cultural etiquette he'd observed hosting Asian clients and wanted to know how a prospective employee would handle the situation. A Canadian-born job candidate said she'd politely tell the person to stop, but Wong had the correct response. "I would ignore it," she said. "It's a sign they are enjoying themselves."

National housing activity edges up |
National resale housing activity edged higher for a second consecutive month in September 2010, according to statistics released by The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA). Combined with a falling supply of homes on the market, the number of months of inventory also declined for the second consecutive month.
