CERC E-News

Greetings!

All eyes are on Vancouver as Olympic fever has taken hold across the nation. We wish our athletes a successful winter games. I'm sure that many visitors to the city will be hoping to call Vancouver their home in the future.

We wish our Chinese readers a happy New Year as we usher in the year of the tiger. The tiger, one of 12 animal signs in the Chinese zodiac, stands for power, beauty and danger. Let us hope for more of the power and beauty and less of the danger quotient in that mix.

If you have an interesting story or an article to share in the E-News please contact us.

I look forward to seeing you at a CERC event soon.

The Canadian government has announced three changes to the standards governing government-backed mortgages. New rules will require mortgage insurers to ensure that borrowers qualify for their mortgage amount using the greater of the contract rate or the interest rate for a five-year fixed rate mortgage. The changes also limit the maximum amount of refinancing at 90% in government backed mortgage and require a minimum down payment of 20% in non-owner occupied homes. The new rules take effect April 19, 2010.

Will your future leaders be coached or poached during the economic recovery?

In the past 12 months, many companies have downsized their workforce and tightened their budget for non-monetary incentives such as additional training and development programs. Senior management needs to invest more time in coaching, training and mentoring to cope with impending skills shortages that will arise from the economic recovery according to a recent report from Kelly Services.

Australian employees chasing the skills to survive in a global workplace

Australian flagA majority of Australian workers feel the experience they gain in a globally oriented workplace will be important to their careers, according to the latest findings from an international workplace survey. However, many believe they are not being adequately prepared to work with varied nationalities and cultures.

The survey finds that Gen Y (aged 18-29) is driving the trend toward globalisation of work. Gen Y employees also feel more confident about working in a multinational environment than their Gen X (aged 30-47) and baby boomer (aged 48-65) colleagues.
