Unnecessary Injuries |

I find it interesting
that thousands of healthcare professionals are injured every year and yet
their industry persists in practices that are risky.
Moving an individual, no matter how small or light, by a person, no
matter how well trained or experienced, is a career ender just waiting to
happen. The statistics are
staggering. |

Just a cursory search on the Internet will yield study after study showing that the use of power lifting devices along with training in their use eliminates thousands of back injuries, drastically reduces lost work time, and saves careers. Yet old methods die hard. Here is a case where they didn’t. I received a frantic call from St. George, Utah. The caller’s mother had MS and the disease had progressed to a point where she had to be physically moved |

from one point to another. The home care company fearing for the safety of their employees and the financial consequences of a workers comp claim was threatening to quit. It would mean a nursing home for mom. Could we help? In
record time we installed a fixed, ceiling lift.
It is 14 feet long and with the bed in the middle effortlessly moves
mom from bed to shower chair and from bed to power chair.
Mom will be able to stay at home, where she wants to be, for a long
time. And, the home care
company will be able to continue to provide service, safely. Isn’t it astounding that of all of the hospital/rehab centers we have in our Valley, some of them quite new, that not one has even the simplest, ceiling lift installation. Apparently the powers-that-be are content to rely on the durability of the backs of their healthcare professionals. |
