Falls are Serious Business

Most of us live in one of three places:

  • a single family dwelling that is safe and comfortable - most want this,
  • a group care facility of some type – most do not want this,
  • a single family dwelling that is unsafe - too many settle for this.

Falls account for about half of all accidental deaths in the home.  They are the leading cause of accidental death for the elderly.

Unfortunately, most homes have many hazards, even developments like Sun City Anthem and Sun City Summerlin, designed for the most vulnerable of us, are accidents just waiting to happen.
Now who thought it was a good idea to build a high threshold at the entry for someone to trip on?

Why is it a good idea to install floor coverings at different heights to promote tripping?

How many of us are afraid of a tub like this?  They are scary!

Falls are serious business.  Most injuries caused by falls happen at ground level and not from high places. Chances of falling increase when it is dark, when things are not put away, and when spills are not cleaned up quickly. Broken or damaged household items may also result in falls.
