PROACTIVE VS. REACTIVE LIVING It can happen to anyone; the diagnosis of a debilitating disease, head or spinal cord injury, heart attack or stroke, or simply our body's changing abilities. Life happens. Activities we have taken for granted may not be so easy anymore. I heard it best described this way, “When we were kids we used to play tag and climb trees. Are we still doing these things? Probably not, life happens” The question is, “What are we going to do about it?” And, a big part of that question is, “How are we going to live in our home as our abilities change?” If you are like most people your home is an obstacle course. The typical home built in the United States is designed for a young, active, adult, male. Is that you? Look at these pictures. Are they the solutions you would want to live with? Do they make you feel good? |

All too often people are reactive to their changing condition and turn their home into a small replica of a nursing home or hospital. Perhaps it would be better to be proactive and plan ahead. Consider what the situation is now and what it will be like down the road. Then develop a comprehensive plan of attractive modifications for your home that will contribute to a great quality of life now and in the future. Look at these pictures. They are the result of good planning. Do you feel better? |
