Viva Tastings Cooking Classes
Tuesday, January 27, 2009 6pm - 9pm
Pasta a Mano - Italian Roots in Loca Soil - Pasta from Scratch Top of Page A
fun evening of pasta, vino and music, celebrating Italian traditions
and local foods. Viva Tastings as you know is committed to using fresh
local ingredients in all of our foods and we will demonstrate how easy
this can be by working with you to creating a meal focusing on
traditional Italian pasta in local soil.
Angelo Bean, producer
of one of the 100 foods (his artisan sausages) you should eat before
you die - Toronto Life) will lead an entertaining totally hands-on
pasta-making workshop featuring local and Italian ingredients. Angelo,
born and raised in Italy will share recipes handed down from his
grandmother. Karen from Viva Tastings, born in Toronto with Italian
roots, will be working along side Angelo to create a memorable evening
that you will not forget. You will make two types of pasta:
cavatelli, and stracci using your hands and old-fashioned tools and the
pastas will be served with two distinct sauces. We will show you how
to cook wholesome pasta sauces using the proverbial open cupboard
approach... the cucina povera of our Italian ancestors. At the end of
the evening we will sit down and enjoy a full range of antipasti and
selected wine samples to match pasta dishes you created that evening.
