December 15, 2008 (Boulder, CO) - The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics recently honored the extraordinary people, organizations and companies that made prominent contributions to the Leave No Trace program in 2008. The designated honorees were singled out among the thousands of Leave No Trace volunteers and partners for their inspiration, leadership and innovation.
Jim Spath, a member and educator, received Leave No Trace's Volunteer of the Year Award for his outstanding activism, service and support to the Leave No Trace program in 2008. Four State Advocates were also chosen for their volunteer work: Dave Rasmussen of Minnesota, Debbie Dodt of Illinois, Skip Essman of Alabama and Douglas Wagoner of Indiana.
The North Face was honored for its direct work to create Leave No Trace awareness and activism in youth. Texas State Parks and Wildlife received a partnership award for innovative programs and services as did the High Mountain Institute. Tami Fairweather from Cascade Designs received a Recognition Award for her advocacy, and Adventure Film received the award for exceptional new partner of the year.
For outstanding pro bono services to Leave No Trace, Patton Boggs, LLC, was recognized for legal services to Leave No Trace. Also honored was Kickstand, a communications and brand firm for consultation; Box 9 Design, a design and ad firm, for the creation of a new Leave No Trace advertising campaign; and to Jack Spivak for strategic consulting.
From the Leave No Trace Board of Directors, Recognition and Service Awards were given to Amy Buckalter and Cathy Scheder this year. Bill Evans, Linda Serdiuk and Adam Forest were acknowledged for their Board service. From the staff, Alexis Ollar and Topher Marlett, 2008 Traveling Trainers, were also honored.
Outgoing State Advocates, Blaine Boxwell of Connecticut, David Rohe of Florida, Paul Hutchinson of New Hampshire, Jill Imboden of Arkansas, and Kenny Long of Missouri were named for their years of service and volunteerism.
