Looking ahead in 2007...
With the excitement of the summer months just around the corner, now is a great time to get involved with Leave No Trace in your community. Read on for more information on the exciting programs Leave No Trace will be bringing to you this summer.
This summer, Leave No Trace and The Coleman Company, Inc. are teaming up for the launch of the Leave No Trace E-Tour.
What does the E-Tour stand for?
Explore, Enjoy, Experience, Excitement, Expedition, Education
What is the Leave No Trace E-Tour?
The Leave No Trace E-Tour is a youth-focused education initiative that will inspire kids to get outside and encourage responsible enjoyment of the outdoors. Our team of two dynamic educators are hitting the road from June through early September, traveling the country to connect with kids and their families through hands-on demonstrations, interactive activities, and general Leave No Trace education. Be sure not to miss this exciting opportunity when the E-Tour visits your neighborhood, at select retail stores specializing in Coleman outdoor products.
Nine years ago, the Traveling Trainers program was born in partnership with Subaru of America to truly put Leave No Trace education and outreach "in motion." As one couple set out on that inaugural voyage in search of venues that welcomed and desired this type of training, one wonders if they ever imagined what the program would look like almost a decade later... if, indeed, it would still even exist in the 21st century!
Today in 2007, this innovative educational road tour runs stronger than ever amidst a landscape of similar "mobile marketing" campaigns that have fizzled and disappeared through the years. With an average of 1,700 requests each year, the demand for Leave No Trace education has catalyzed the Center for Outdoor Ethics to continue growing boldly and imaginatively into the future.
This is a groundbreaking year, as the format for the program expands to allow for a third team to travel the lower 48 states in an effort to strengthen our outreach and meet the growing demand for Leave No Trace training. The Center is excited to have Dusty and Amy Allison returning for a third year to help facilitate this new expansion of the Traveling Trainers program. As the only full-time team, Dusty and Amy will continue to teach and train thousands across the U.S., but will give special focus this year to strengthening our community networks through work with State Advocates and Key Volunteers. From mid- March until the end of September, Emily Ressler and J.D. Tanner will join the Traveling Trainer ranks as Team East, while veteran team of Ella Goodbrod and North Moench will hold up Team West. Together these two teams will continue to provide high-quality and dynamic workshops during our busiest months as they travel to new venues and events in an effort to expand the base of Leave No Trace awareness.
