Supreme Court Upholds President Obama's Health Care Reform
| |

On June 28, 2012 the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) that was signed into law by President Obama two years ago. Since that time, millions of Americans have used some of the immediate provisions the law has afforded. The most notable features of ACA are free preventive services, increased health care funding specifically for preventive health, Medicaid expansion, and the Health Insurance Exchange that will soon be implemented in 2014, which will include equitable options for those with pre-existing conditions.
Public health providers can look forward to more funding that will provide an influx of services offered to the public and the number of people they can reach. An example of this is the approximately $128 million that was recently awarded to community health centers by HRSA. HHS understands that "for many Americans, community health centers are the major source of care that ranges from prevention to treatment of chronic diseases (Secretary Sebelius)" and the ACA plans to help meet that challenge of providing equitable quality care for all, but most importantly for the underserved populations. Immunization Awareness 2012 Fact Sheet
Getting immunized is a lifelong, life-protecting job. Don't leave your healthcare provider's office without making sure you've had all the vaccinations you need. Vaccines protect against some communicable diseases, and every community should be educated about how to protect themselves, including public housing residents. Also Public housing residents have other chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes which make them more susceptible to get infected.

Psoriasis affects about 7.5 million Americans, but Blacks, Latinos and Asians suffer more psychologically and socially from this condition than other races.
Psoriasis is not contagious-no one can "catch" it from another person. Because of their genes, certain people are more likely to develop it, but a trigger is usually necessary to make psoriasis appear.
