Summertime Safety for Young Workers interns

The summer is traditionally the time when young people head into the workforce, finding that sweet spot of summer earnings, for perhaps their education fund, a second or third-hand car, or maybe just a little extra spending money. Whether they are working on the family farm, life-guarding at their community pool or scooping ice-cream at the local Frosty Freeze, it is unlikely they have given much if any thought to potential workplace hazards that may be looming.

MOL Blitz Also Includes New Workers

new workersThe Institute for Work & Health (IWH) has identified that any new worker, of any age on the job, is up to four times more likely to be injured during the first month than any other time performing that job. Any new hire, whether permanent or temporary, including supervisors, with or without experience in the industry, and any current workers who are assigned new jobs are at increased risk. Read more...

Preparing for the Blitz - How PSHSA Can Help

Public Services Health & Safety Association has numerous resources to help employers become compliant with the requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act long before the safety blitz inspector comes calling. We offer a wide range of products, scheduled training and customized, on-site training and consultation in addition to several free, downloadable tools. As well, for each blitz occurring in the healthcare or industrial sectors, we offer webinars co-presented with the Ministry of Labour to help clients prepare for potential inspector visits.  Read more...

PSHSA Advisory Councils - Our Partners in Prevention

When PSHSA was formed in January 2010, we made a strong commitment to maintain and enrich our sector relationships. One of the ways that we have done this is through our three Advisory Councils in Education & Culture; Community & Healthcare; and Municipal & Community Affairs. The role of the councils is established in our Board policies, and their membership draws from a diverse mix of employer associations, sector representatives, clients and unions from across Ontario.
