In 2010 Public Services Health & Safety Association (PSHSA) launched Safety|Works to help you keep up to date on health and safety issues in the public services. We are now updating our format to bring you a monthly e-newsletter under the banner of Network News. Working with our prevention system partners, we will be providing regular updates on health and safety topics, while continuing to feature sector-specific issues and information.

PSHSA Working with Institute for Work & Health on Leading Organizational Indicators

The "5,000 Firm Study," as it's informally known, is focused on understanding how organizations' health, safety and disability policies and practices are related to injuries and illness. The scope is huge, including every major sector in Ontario. Selected randomly from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board's (WSIB's) database, public service agencies from the municipal, health care and education sectors will be invited to participate in the coming months.  Read more... 

Putting the Brakes on Motor Vehicle Incidents

Motor vehicle collisions on Ontario roads are the greatest single cause of, and account for more than 30% of all Ontario worker fatalities, according to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). This number increases to 45% when powered industrial vehicles or powered mobile industrial equipment in the workplace - vehicles used to lift and move material - are included.Read more...

MOL Launches Year-Long Falls Inspection "Campaign"

Faced with stubbornly consistent injury claims for same level falls and falls from heights, Ontario's Ministry of Labour has embarked on a year-long, industry-wide inspection campaign. Each year, roughly one in six lost-time injuries results from same level falls and falls from heights, according to Workplace Safety and Insurance Board statistics. Read more...
