A week ago, Adam Gable was in a very serious car accident. Adam and his wife, Mary, and their three young children are new members of Haymount UMC.
A couple days later, once the dust had settled and we had some idea of the long road ahead, we sounded the call for help.
The response has been extraordinary. Countless emails have poured in, offering to help in all kinds of ways.
Many have signed up to cook meals to deliver to their home.
Others are helping out around the house: cleaning, babysitting the kids. A student from Methodist University, not even a member of our church, is babysitting tonight and helping clean.
One person brought a check to the church the next day, providing money to help cover expenses. A soldier deployed in Afghanistan emailed to say he's mailing a check to the Gables. Others have asked about giving money.
Yesterday I got a call from Rockfish Camp. Director, David Weber, asked if the Gable children would like to come and spend next week at camp... for free!
In addition, countless prayers have been prayed and continue to be prayed for the Gables. More is being done than space allows me to report.
The Bible tells us to "carry each other's burdens" (Galatians 6:2). That's what Jesus does for us, and what he wants us to do for each other. You are helping the Gables carry their burdens. You have lightened the load. I can hear the relief in Mary's voice.
This Sunday, we will wrap up our series on healing. We will look at how healing is a team effort. Just as a medical team consists of multiple doctors, nurses, CNAs, pharmacists, nutritionists, and others, Jesus has many people working on his healing team. It's his desire that you and I are on the team and part of his ministry of healing.
A webpage has been set up to receive and organize our helping ministry at www.mealtrain.com. If want to help out, please click on the link below.
