Wellness Tip:

Beat The Heat

As summer approaches, exercising outdoors can be challenging.  Exercising in extreme heat can also put additional stress on the body.

Here are some helpful tips for staying safe and reducing your risk for heat related illnesses this summer:

  • Exercise in the morning or evening when temperatures tend to be cooler.
  • Modify the duration and intensity of your workout to accommodate higher temperatures.
  • Take more frequent breaks throughout your workout routine.
  • Drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after your workout.
  • Eat meals and snacks regularly, including foods rich in potassium.
  • Wear light-weight clothing that is loose-fitting and light in color.
  • Wear sunscreen and a brimmed hat.
  • Take advantage of shaded areas.
  • Monitor your heart rate.
  • Know your medical risks.

A Night in BrazilA Night in Brazil

Um sucesso!(That's Portuguese for a great time!)

It was an evening of Samba and Caipirinhas at the first Night in Brazil at Fogo de Chao on the Country Club Plaza. The night was a benefit for the Hospital Hill Economic Development Corporation (HHEDC). More than150 people attended the event, which included live Samba dancers, a silent auction, and Brazilian food and drink.

The HHEDC thanks everyone who supported A Night In Brazil and looks forward to next year's event.

Golf ball drop

Fore the Babies!

The WinterStone Golf Course in Independence was the setting for Golf Baby Golf, TMC Lakewood's annual golf tournament, which raises funds for the Lakewood Family Birthplace.

This year's successful tournament was a sell-out with 150 golfers and more than 70 volunteers participating, raising more than $122,000.

One of the highlights of Golf Baby Golf is the famous ball drop contest. A helicopter dropped hundreds of balls on the course with three landing right in the hole! The owners of the balls that landed in the hole received great prizes.
