Wellness Tip: Work Out That Stress! | |
These days, it's easy to become stressed. As our responsibilities at work and home increase, so can our stress levels. Exercise is a great way to manage stress. Whether it's a low-impact activity or high-intensity aerobic workout, practically any form of exercise can help alleviate the impact stress has on our mind and body. In fact, exercise increases the production of endorphins in the brain, promoting feelings of happiness and a sense of well-being; helps you focus on the present activity, rather than the day's problems; and increases your mood by improving your quality of sleep. So, find an activity that you love, such as walking, bicycling, yoga or tai chi, and get moving!

TMC Receives LIVESTRONG Grant
Truman Medical Centers received funding for its Palliative Care Program through the LIVESTRONG Community Impact Project.
Hundreds of qualified hospitals, cancer centers, universities and non-profits from across the United States applied to be part of four different programs.
TMC will receive a $10,000 grant for Advanced Certification for its Palliative Care program. Certification from The Joint Commission will bring increased services for cancer patients and their families and formal recognition for TMC's high-quality palliative care. It also will provide greater visibility for the vital need of Palliative Care for patients dealing with serious chronic illness and end-of-life decisions and care.
"We were up against some strong competition," says Jim Dawson, executive director of the TMC Charitable Foundation. "We could not have accomplished this win without everyone pulling together. It's a strong statement about the strength of our staff's commitment to our patients, which is the heart and soul of TMC."
