Wellness Tip:   Healthy Snacking

It's difficult to stay focused when you're hungry.  It's even more difficult to stick to your regular exercise routine when you have no energy. Incorporating healthy snacks throughout your day helps reduce the urge to over eat. Keeping a light snack handy also helps stabilize both your blood sugar and energy levels to perform at your best.

When making a healthy snack plan, include a variety of foods that are low in fat, low in sugar, and high in fiber. Some great snack examples include fruits, veggies, low-fat or fat-free yogurt, and whole grain snacks. Control the portion size of your snacks by separating large portions into smaller containers.Try sticking to snacks around 100 calories or less. And remember; drink lots and lots of water!

Healthy Harvest Cookbook

The Healthy Harvest Market at Truman Medical Centers is publishing a cook book, filled with healthy recipes submitted by the TMC employees. "The idea for the cookbook came from hearing TMC employees asking each other how to prepare some of the foods they purchased," said Molly Bullington, Market Master. "This cookbook will not only benefit our employees, but help to increase the overall health and wellness of our patients and the surrounding community." Look for the cookbook soon!

Also, don't forget to visit the Healthy Harvest Market on Wednesdays beginning April 18 at Hospital Hill. For more information, contact Molly Bullington at molly.bullington@tmcmed.org.

Employee WellnessWellness Champions

The Wellness Champions play a key role in helping Truman Medical Centers' employees become much healthier. Wellness Champions are TMC employees who serve as liaisons between their co-workers and the Employee Wellness Department. They are the point of contact for employees that are interested in wellness programs and improving their health.

Working in healthcare, TMC employees see daily what the effects of poor health habits can do. Wellness Champions provide that extra boost of encouragement that help motivate employees toward their wellness goals.
