Wellness Tip: Make Breakfast Count | |
Your first meal of the day sets the nutritional tone for your whole day. A well-balanced breakfast is as easy as 1, 2, 3:
1) Include a whole grain, like oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon or whole grain toast or cereal
2) Add a healthy protein, like lowfat milk or yogurt, or an egg
3) Round it out with fresh produce like fruit or sautéed vegetables

More than 200 people attended the sixth annual Evening Under the Stars event, which raise more than $45,000 for the Lakewood Family Birthplace. Adopt-A-Resident at Lakewood
The 167 residents of the Lakewood Care Center are up for "adoption" this holiday season. Each year, generous individuals and organizations throughout the Kansas City community participate in the "Adopt a Resident" program that provides a holiday gift bag for each resident. Members of the TMC Lakewood Auxiliary committee interview the residents to determine their individual needs. Examples of the items on resident wish lists include clothing, personal care articles, snacks, games, and calendars. Adopting groups and individuals receive a copy of the list and then shop for their resident. In late December, residents receive their gift bags at a holiday party in the Long Term Care Center. Residents also can be adopted throughout the year. To adopt or for more information, contact the Lakewood Volunteer and Auxiliary office at 816-404-9710 or email LWAuxiliary@tmcmed.org.

KC Black Expo
The Kansas City Black Expo made a return to Kansas City in Septembe r at Bartle Hall. The event was created to give local minority-owned businesses exposure to the community and opportunities for networking and collaboration. It featured entertainment from local high school bands to nationally-known artists. There also was a Beauty Pavilion where hair and fashion shows took place. In addition, visitors could go to the Medical Mall where various health services were offered. Many Truman Medical Centers employees volunteered their time at this event, offering blood pressure screenings, financial services and much more. These employees really showed their spirit of community engagement by giving their time and talents to this event. |
