Greetings!
A completely sold-out event, 2012 Queen's Day in Tucson will go on the record as the biggest Queen's Day event in Southern Arizona ever!
A wave of over 200 guests, mostly dressed in orange, descended upon Abraham Lincoln Park at noon on Sunday April 29, where a private section of the park had been beautifully decorated by a team of Queen's Day volunteers.
Under blue skies, the air was filled with hundreds of orange balloons, flags and the sound of a wonderful mix of typical Dutch music!
A Fun-filled Program
- Maurice Schonk (LtCol RNLAF) kicked the festivities off with a great welcome speech, a toast to Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and then officially opened 2012 Queen's Day in Tucson.
- The buffet-style lunch, prepared by the QD volunteers was absolutely delicious and even included mouth-watering freshly-made deep-fried 'Kroketten' (Thank You Jan Willem and Sylvia for making over 200 kroketten for us!).
- After lunch the Queen's Day games started - too much fun! People played ... Badminton Volleyball Soccer (of course...:-) 'Zakkenlopen' (running in sacs) 'Koekhappen' (trying to bite off candy dangling from a rope) Sjoelbakken' (shuffle board) Acrobatic demonstrations (downright scary...) 'Ren je Rot' (a runaround group competition/quiz, testing people's knowledge of the Netherlands), followed by a Hip-hop dance demonstration!
- The day ended with a gezellige 'borrel' (Happy Hour) where people enjoyed drinks, snacks, meatballs in satay sauce etc. A worthy ending to a fantastic, fun-filled day!
