With the Fourth of July coming soon, and the presidential election season heating up, it might be a timely opportunity to pique your teens' curiosity about what Scripture has to say regarding faith and politics. We know we're supposed to pray for our leaders, but God actually says a good bit more than that on the subject. In fact, political awareness/involvement could be a long lost spiritual discipline that needs to be revived.

Youth workers by nature are passionate people. Consider the books on our shelves and the sports equipment in our trunks. We have deep enthusiasm for anything we pursue. And it's a likely bet one can put politics in this category of enthusiastic pursuits. Which is good.

2. TRY THIS: Balancing Dual Citizenship, 2 Peter 2:11-17

As believers we have allegiance to a country that is not of this world, yet we're also given instructions on how to live in a country that is of this world. The better we do at following those instructions, the more attractive we make our Home country. This short exercise in 2 Peter 2:11-17 will help teens see how this dual citizenship can play out in their daily lives.
